The effect of cadmium on some immunological indices in Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)

Abstract :

In this study, 135 farmed Silver Carp fish with a mean weight of 50.6 ± 8 .6 gramsand a mean length of 16.2±3 cm , were exposed to concentrations of 0, 5 and 10mg/L of cadmium chloride (Cd(Cl)2) in 100 L aquariums for 96 hours. Eachtreatment had 3 replicates and each replicate consisted of 15 fish. Blood from thefishes was taken every 24 hours. The number of white blood cells decreased in 72hours, but they increased in 96 hours (P<0.05). The number of neutrophils decreasedwith time. However, the number of eosinophils increased at concentration of 10 mgin 96 hours and reached to the maximum. The number of monocytes showedirregular fluctuations. Thus, increase of the heavy metal cadmium level in wateraffected immune system in Silver Carp negatively.
