Abstract :
The relationship between mind (soul) and body is one of the great challenges among Islamic philosophers and mystics. According to Avesina (IbnSina), soul is an immaterial substance and self-existent, and the decay of the body doesn’t affect it. Ibn Arabi believed that there is an essential relation between soul and body, and the body is a place for the soul to manifest its effects. Mulla Sadra, based on his theory of substantial motion (Harakt Jawhari), rejected the separation of the soul and body. The present article, by taking into these views, tries to reexamine the relationship of mind and body in Islamic thought.
