Abstract :

Folklore -as a treasury of beliefs, old symbols and myths- and vulgar tales are important sources for learning literature and culture of people. With the aim of studying the folklore of Hormozgan peoples, the present paper tries to consider the myth of tree-man in vulgar tales of this district. The results of present study show that the myth of tree-woman has a more frequency in comparison with other myths. The myth prevails in the form of marriage of a maid with a tree, and becoming pregnant as a result; also, it indicates belief in the presence of masculine genie and beast in a tree and the metamorphosis of “tree-man” and “man-tree”.
