The effect of socio-economic development process on the occurrence of revolutions; A comparative historical study of the revolutions in Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen

Abstract :

Today, revolutions are no longer considered as rare historical phenomena. A series of political revolutions has swept the world so far, the last of them was Arab revolutions in 2011. Numerous causes have contributed to the occurrence of these revolutions. This article has been written with the aim of investigating the social causes of revolutions and specifically the impact of the process of economic and social development (modernization) on revolutions and the main question is the same goal; That is, what effect does the process of socio-economic development have on the occurrence of revolutions?The answer to this question with the help of the theoretical apparatus derived from the social theories of revolutions and using the historical (qualitative) comparative method through the study of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and the revolutions of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen shows that despite the importance of the process, scope and The speed of socio-economic development in the occurrence of revolutions, this causal condition cant make a clear distinction between countries in which the revolution took place and those that did not take place (here Morocco and Algeria). Because in many of the ten indicators of socio-economic development, which have been measured in this study, the situation of countries in which the revolution did not take place has been even better than revolutionary countries. Therefore, it can be said that socio-economic development and its levels have had different consequences in different countries in relation to the occurrence / non-occurrence of the revolution
