Abstract :
From the perspective of systems theory, mental health is a multidimensional and dynamic phenomenon that emerges from the interaction among biological, psychological, familial, social, cultural, and environmental components. The present study aimed to develop and validate a comprehensive scale for assessing mental health based on a systemic holistic approach. The statistical population consisted of social media users in Iran in 2025, among whom 690 participants were selected using convenience sampling. The data collection tool was the initial version of the Mental Health Scale and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (Lavie Band, 1995) to examine convergent validity. The research procedure included item generation, assessment of content and face validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and reliability evaluation. The results of factor analysis showed five main factors of mental health including individual-family functioning, interactive-social functioning, environmental-structural support, cultural adaptation, and dynamism and adaptability. The model fit indices were within the acceptable range. The scale demonstrated satisfactory criterion and discriminant validity, as well as adequate convergent, internal, composite, and test–retest reliability. Overall, the findings suggest that the Systemic Mental Health Scale is a valid and comprehensive instrument for multidimensional assessment of mental health within the Iranian cultural context.
