Relationship between self-esteem and attachment style

Abstract :

In order to study the relationship between self esteem and attachment style, 100 female university students, completed Self Esteem Inventory (Coopersmith, 1967) and Attachment Style Questionnaire (Hazan & Shaiver, 1987). Self Esteem was positively related to the secure attachment style and negatively related to the avoidant attachment style. A non-significant negative correlation was seem between self-esteem and anxious-ambivalent attachment style. The implications for further studies that include male participants and larger samples are discussed.
