Abstract :
Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of imagotherapy on self-differentiation and emotional expressiveness of couples with marital conflicts. The research design was descriptive and quasi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test method. The statistical population of the study was all married women referring to counseling centers in Shiraz in 1403. Among these individuals, 30 people were selected voluntarily through available sampling method and 15 people were randomly assigned to the experimental group and 15 people to the control group. The experimental group received imago therapy treatment, but no intervention was performed in the control group. Participants in the two groups answered the marital conflict questionnaires (MCQ, Barati and Sanaei, 1379), self-differentiation (DSI-R, Skorown and Friedlander, 1998), and emotional expressiveness (EEQ, King and Emmons, 1990) before and after the intervention. SPSS 23 software was used to analyze the data and the research hypotheses were examined with multiple covariance test. The results showed that the imagotherapy program had a significant effect on increasing self-differentiation and emotional expressiveness of couples (p≥0.005) and the research hypothesis was confirmed. According to the results obtained, it is suggested that therapists and couples counselors should use the imagotherapy method to treat couples with marital problems in order to increase the productivity of the results and improve the quality of the couples' relationships.
