Abstract :
In most societies and among Arabs in particular, it is customary that the eldest son will be his successor and heir after the father. This rule also existed among the imams and usually the next imam was the eldest son of the imam unless the eldest son lost his imamate for reasons such as death. One of these people, Ismail, was the eldest son of Imam Sadiq who was very much loved by his father. The purpose of this article is to analyze, in a descriptive-analytical way, characteristics of Ismail that made many Shiites think that Ismail will be the next Imam, and on the other hand, it is to examine the signs that made many Shiites think that Ismail will be the next Imam. also believe against this opinion. The obtained results show that Ismail himself and many Shiites thought of his Imamate, but when this did not materialize, Ismail coped with losing his position of Imamate, but unlike him, some Shiites did not easily cope with this issue and even After his death, he was considered as the imam and successor of his father.
