Abstract :
The bee flies, Bombylioidea (Diptera) have several significances among the other dipterans, given that their immature stages are predators or parasites of soil-dwelling insects, while their adults are pollen-feeders and play major role in pollination. In particular, the immature stages eat the eggs of grasshoppers and get their population balanced. To investigate the fauna of bee flies in Sanandaj and vicinity (Kordestan province, Iran), a total of 23 bombilids were collected. Of which, 23 species, belonging to the Mythicomyiidae (5 species) and Bombyliidae (18 species) were identified as follows. The undetermined species are tentatively discussed as new for science. Glabellula sp., Empidideicus unicus Gharali & Evenhuis, Platypygus kurdorum Paramonov, Platypygus titanomedea Gharali & Evenhuis, Usia bicolor Macquart, Cyrtosia sp., Parageron inornata Engel, Phthiria vagans Loew, Phthiria pulicaria Mikan, Systochus autumnalis Pallas & Wiedemann, Bombylisoma flavibarbum Loew, Bombylius medius L., Anthrax anthrax Schrank, Spogostylum isis Meigen, Micomitra stupida Rossi, Villa hotentotta L., Villa niphobleta Loew, Thyridanthrax griseola Klug, Exhyalanthrax afer Fabricius, Peterossia sp.1, Peterossia sp.2, Peterossia sp.3, Amictus validus Loew.
