Abstract :
The growing interest in healthy living and the increasing incidence of obesity and diabetes have popularized the consumption of non-nutritive and calorie-freeartificial sweeteners such as saccharin. Stevia is a natural sweetening extract with proven therapeutic benefits beyond its sweetness and antioxidant properties. On the other handadverse effects of saccharin on vital body systems and blood parameters have been reported. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effects of simultaneous administration of saccharin and stevia extract on the blood parameters. In this experimental study,24adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into one control group and three experimental groups. The first group received 3ml of distilled water daily, the second group received saccharin at a dose of5mg/kg.BW,the third group received hydroalcoholic extract of stevia at a dose of400 mg/kg.BW,and the fourth group simultaneously received saccharin and stevia at the same doses via gavage for48days 24 hours after the final treatment, following anesthesia, blood samples were collected from the rats' hearts, and after serum separation, they were evaluated Glucose, urea, and liver enzymes levels showed a significant increase in the saccharin group. Blood albumin levels significantly decreased in the saccharin+stevia group, while creatinine levels showed a significant increase.Other factors such as total protein and triglycerides did not show significant changes Saccharin, through the production of free radicals and weakening of the body's antioxidant systemas well as changes in blood parameters, can disrupt physiological body functions.Howeverconcurrent consumption of stevia can moderate the effects of saccharin.
