Abstract :
In this paper, a method is presented for determining SF6 Circuit Breakers (CBs) failure rate due to Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) at the instant of interrupting short-circuit current. For this purpose, first, discharging of electric charge due to arcing, which is the main cause of erosion in CB contacts, is calculated using transient state simulation of EMTP/ATP software. This arcing takes place due to interruption of short-circuit current by the CB. Since the location of short-circuit on the line is unknown, a statistical approach is presented for determining its location. Accordingly, the statistical distribution of short-circuit location is formed based on the data recorded at 110kV Tatev station. Based on this statistical distribution, the CB failure is detected using the arcing contact wipe index (Da). Finally, the CB failure rate is obtained based on the number of failures during 100 times of fault clearing. Compared to the previous works, simulation results show the accuracy of the proposed method and proper performance of the CBs used for supplying the 110kV Transmission Lines (TLs).
