Abstract :
The Economic-Environmental Efficiency Index is a useful tool for the correct and efficient use of resources and the simultaneous study of economic and environmental sustainability. The aim of this study was to investigate the economic and environmental sustainability of different tobacco cultivars (Virginia, Barley and Basma) in northern Iran. To evaluate the environmental effects of tobacco production, life cycle assessment (LCA) method was used and to calculate the economic-environmental efficiency index, two indicators of net income and global warming were selected as economic and environmental indicators, respectively. In the Economic Sustainability Survey, the Virginia cultivar had the highest value in terms of net income and profit-to-cost ratios, indicating that it was more profitable to produce. The study of environmental sustainability showed that Barley cultivar had the highest and Basma cultivar had the lowest value in classification indices and degradation groups, The results of the study of economic-environmental efficiency index showed that Basma cultivar had the highest economic-environmental stability in the production of different tobacco cultivars.
