Evaluation of e- books from the view- points of graduate students and librarians, case study: Islamic Azad University, Science & Research Branch in Tehran

Abstract :
Purpose: The main objectives of this study is to examine the views of librarians and graduate students of Tehran Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch, about e-books. Methods: The provided methodology in this study is descriptive- analytic survey. Regarding the magnitude of research society, the sampling method was employed in this research and also the classification random sampling method was adopted in order to determine the number of samples. Totally, 357 out of 15000 graduate students, as well as the whole of 40 librarians working at the University participated in the study. The data was explained by questionnaires and Excel software, then the statistical estimations, such as abundance percentage was conducted. Findings: The results indicate that some of the most important evaluation criteria of e-books from the viewpoints of graduate students of Tehran Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch are book content search capability from the views of 352 persons (93.87 percent), capability of advanced search from the views of 351 persons (93.61 percent). Also, according to results some of the most important evaluation criteria of e-books in viewpoints of librarians of the university are suitability to library facilities from the views of 40 persons (100 percent), interests of members to use of e-books from the views of 40 persons (100 percent), and the clarity of bibliographic information in order to organize the resources from the views of 38 persons (95 percent). Results: All of the considered electronic criteria of books, whether in search capability or structure, from the viewpoints of the students and librarians, include high significance and the society surveyed are acquainted with these kinds of books. Also, it is observable that all of the criteria are accepted (more than 75 percents) in selecting the majority of the society.
