Abstract :
Internal waves are one of the important phenomena in the oceans and are usually created by tidal currents and spread in the water column. Remote sensing and field measurements are two methods for measuring internal waves. In this study, internal waves in the Strait of Hormuz have been investigated using C-band images from the SAR sensor (SAR) of the Sentinel 1 satellite. The parameters extracted from these images for the years 2021 and 2022 are: wavelength, propagation speed, propagation direction and amplitude of waves. For validation, a mooring with three rapid response temperature sensors was installed in the area from early March 2022 to the end of June 2022, recording data every 30 seconds. Finally, after extracting the mentioned parameters from satellite images and field measurement data, these results were obtained that the difference in the amplitude and speed of the waves in the measured parameters compared to the field data is about 28% and 7.1%, respectively.
