Examining the moderating role of institutional ownership on the effect of tax avoidance on management's power-seeking

Abstract :
High management power and authority can lead to greater efficiency or opportunistic behavior. As discussed in the literature related to tax avoidance motives, managerial opportunism can be intensified through the tax avoidance activities of companies. Based on this, the purpose of this research is to examine the moderating role of institutional ownership on the impact of tax avoidance on management power-seeking. The present research is rationalistic in terms of its approach and practical in terms of its goal, and it is among descriptive-correlational researches. Also, the research method is deductive in terms of the type of reasoning and it is a retrospective research in terms of time. The statistical population of the research includes 120 companies admitted to the Tehran Stock Exchange, which were selected from different industries using the systematic elimination method in the period from 1394 to 1401, and to test the hypotheses of the research, using the multiple linear regression model in the panel data method with Random effects and generalized least squares method have been used. The results of the research show that tax avoidance has a positive effect on management's power-seeking in companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Institutional ownership has a positive moderating role on the effect of tax avoidance on managerial power-seeking in companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange.
