Abstract :
In order to study the effect of compost and salinity stress on seedling growth and generative traits of wheat (Sivand Cultivar) a pot experiment was conducted based on complete randomized design arranged in factorial with six replications at the research greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Mashhad Branch, Islamic Azad University, Mashhad, Iran, during in cropping season 2013-2014. Factors were included compost in 4 levels (0, 3, 6 and 9 Wt% potting soil) and salinity stress by NaCl in 4 levels (0, 5, 10 and 15 ds/m). Three replications were used for measure of seedling characteristics and three other replications were used to measure of generative traits at ripening stage. Analysis of variance showed that the effect of compost (except: grain weight) and salinity stress on all seedling characteristics and generative traits were significant. But the interaction of two factors had significant effect on seedling height, leaf area of seedling, number of grain per plant, grain weight and plant biomass. The means comparison showed that the compost had a positive effect on all traits. The highest seedling highest (28.1 cm), seedling fresh weight (0.867g), seedling dry weight (0.139 g) and leaf area of seedling (21.6 cm2) obtained in compost 9%. And the highest plan height (56.6 cm), spike length (7.3 cm), number of grain per plant (28.4 grain), grain yield per plant (0.99 g) and plant biomass (2.14 g) obtained in compost 6%. Salinity stress had negative effect on all traits. The highest decrease was observed in the saline 10 and 15 ds/m. The means comparison of traits that were affected by the interaction of two factors showed that the compost can reduce the negative effect of salinity stress. So that, reduce the amount of traits were lower at the highest levels of compost
