Abstract :
Plants are a rich source of antioxidant compounds that can prevent oxidative stress. The present study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant properties of different extracts obtained from the Ziziphora tenuior L. The leaves and stems of the plant were collected and dried from the mountains around Quchan in the spring of 1401. Extraction of dried plant powder was done with the help of maceration (cold), hot and microwave methods and solvents of water, methanol, ethanol, water and ethanol (1:1), acetone and dichloromethane. The total content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds and the antioxidant activity of the extracts were measured by the DPPH method. Also, the chemical compounds in the essential oil obtained from the leaves and stems of the plant were identified by Cloninger method with the help of GC/MS device. The maximum amount of phenolic compounds in the methanolic extract was obtained using the extraction method (74.26 mg/g). Methanolic extract by maceration showed the highest amount of flavonoid compounds (108.12 mg/g). Methanolic extract (warm method) indicates a strong inhibitory activity (69.52%). The highest percentage of known chemical compounds in plant essential oil were polgon (49.05 %), piperitone (11.61 %) and menthone (9.23 %). In general, the results showed that the use of different extraction methods can be effective in the extraction of antioxidant compounds in the plant. Due to the high antioxidant properties of the Ziziphora tenuior L. plant, it can be used as a natural antioxidant in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
