Analysis of Khorramabad Housing Indicators and Predicting the Required Housing with Emphasis on Decent Housing

Abstract :

Housing indices are essential tools for evaluating the quality of housing policy and for planning effective housing strategies. With rapid urban growth increasing housing demand, the achievement of adequate housing conditions—particularly in rural areas—remains one of the most significant socio-economic development challenges worldwide. This study aimed to assess the housing status of Khorramabad city by analyzing socio-economic, cultural, physical, and environmental indicators. The research is applied in purpose and descriptive–analytical with a quantitative approach. A mixed method of data collection was adopted: first, relevant theoretical concepts were reviewed, followed by the collection and analysis of statistical data on Khorramabad from existing databases. Using Cochran’s formula and considering the city’s population of 390,571 at a 5% error level, 348 questionnaires were distributed and completed online in the previous year. The results reveal a housing deficit of 20,157 residential units in Khorramabad. Furthermore, due to weak economic indicators, the city’s physical characteristics indicate that adequate housing remains in a relatively unfavorable condition.
