Several Active Phonological Processes in Shirazi Dialect

Abstract :

The aim of this research is to investigate active phonological processes in Shirazi Dialect. For this purpose, the data required for the research have been collected in several ways: 1. Interviews with 5 Shirazi informants, 2. Using the linguistic intuition of one of the authors to verify the data, 3. Using sources After collecting more than five hundred simple, complex, and compound words and phrases, the data have been categorized according to the common context and the type of the process of each has been identified, described, and analyzed, and the rule of each process has been written. At the end of each section, one of the data from the underlying form to the phonetic one has been represented as an example. Several of  results of this study are: 1. In the consonant clusters /st/ and /zd/, the process of assimilation acts in a progressive manner in the context between two vowels. 2. The back low vowel /A/ in the context before the postalveolar fricative /S/ and at the end of free morphemes is raised to the mid vowel [o]. 3. The affix /-e/ is deleted in the genitive and adjectival phrases. 4. The back low vowel /A/ in the causative suffix [-And] is raised one degree before the consonant sequence /nd/ and becomes the mid vowel [o]. 5. The mid vowel /e/ in the imperative and subjunctive prefix /be-/ has vowel harmony with the high vowels of the verb stem in terms of the features of [high] and [back].
