Abstract :
A study of social culture, writing historical texts of the fourth and fifth lunar periods, shows that until a century ago, the Shahnameh was considered a historical source and has always been asked by historians and writers why Cyrus, the great and popular king of Iran, did not appear in the Shahnameh. This study, by examining the historical texts of the Ferdowsi period and by the method of content analysis, provides a historical-logical answer to the reasons for not naming Cyrus. The purpose of this article is why the Achaemenid Cyrus was not named by comparing and examining Ferdowsi's Shahnameh with historical texts of that period such as the history of Tabari and Yaghoubi, etc. The findings of this study explain the reasons for not naming Cyrus in the Shahnameh as follows: The removal of the name of Cyrus from the time Darius came to power according to the inscription of Biston and Darius's orders, as a result of the absence of the name of Cyrus in Sassanid sources. Ferdowsi's direct use of the god of Sassanid names and trust in them, Ferdowsi's lack of knowledge of Hebrew and Greek scripts and languages that have mentioned the name of Cyrus.
