Abstract :
Pīrūzān bannerDr. Arash Akbari Mafakher AbstractPērōzān banner is an unknown term that have appeard only twice in the Pahlavi text of Yādgār-i Zarīrān. This term is not rewritten in Yādgār-i Zarīrān's manuscripts and editions, and Pahlavi scholars in their translations and researches have given the same "Pīrūzān" /pērōzān/ [pylwc'n] or translated it as "victorious" and "victory". In this article, after reviewing Yādgār-i Zarīrān's manuscripts and editions, and researching Pahlavi scholars' opinions with the 4 probability schemes and assumptions of attribution, material, role, and color of the banner, and examining the lexical structure, pērōzān in the grammatical structure of "pīrozeh"/pērōzag/(=blue stone) and it means "purple". Daghighi's examination of Yādgār-i Zarīrān, which uses "purple banner" as the same as "Pīrūzān banner", confirms the purple meaning of Pīrūzān and indicates another name for Kāviyānī banner. The use of purple banner instead of Kāviyānī banner in Ferdowsi's poems as well as Gūrāni's epics confirms the structure and meaning of " Pīrūzān".KeywordsYādgār-i Zarīrān, Pīrūzān / Pērōzān banner, Pīrouzeh, Purpl banner, Garamikard, Kāviyānī banner.
