An Analysis of the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Enhancing the Implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Armed Conflict

Abstract :
Conflicts represent one of the most complex and critical challenges in today’s world, demanding innovative and ethically grounded solutions. The fundamental principles of armed conflict are recognized as a key framework for minimizing human casualties and financial losses in warfare. With advances in technology, artificial intelligence (AI)—through its capabilities in data analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning—holds significant potential for enhancing the implementation of these principles and mitigating the negative consequences of armed conflicts. This study, using a descriptive–analytical method, examines the role of AI in enforcing fundamental principles of armed conflict and analyzes the challenges associated with its application. Findings indicate that AI, by analyzing large volumes of data and accurately identifying targets, can prevent unnecessary hostilities and reduce civilian casualties. However, challenges such as accuracy, decision-making transparency, data security, and accountability in cases of error or human rights violations require particular attention. For the ethical and effective use of AI in conflicts, strengthening international cooperation and developing global standards, along with comprehensive legal and regulatory frameworks, are recommended. By providing innovative analyses and practical recommendations, this study contributes to the optimal use of advanced technologies to reduce violence and promote peace.
