Abstract :

Environmental archaeology, as an interdisciplinary approach, examines the complex interactions between human societies and their environment throughout history. This study, focusing on the Qom Plain, analyzes various methods such as geomorphological analysis, bioarchaeological remains, soil and sediment analysis, and climate data to evaluate how past ecosystems can be reconstructed. The main aim of this research is to investigate the impact of environmental changes on settlement patterns and subsistence strategies of ancient communities in the Qom Plain. By employing advanced techniques such as remote sensing (GIS and LiDAR), geophysical surveys, and bioarchaeological studies, this research reconstructs ancient landscapes and analyzes the impact of human activities on ecological changes. The findings suggest that climatic changes, including droughts and rainfall fluctuations, directly influenced settlement patterns and subsistence strategies of past communities. Additionally, the development of water management systems, such as qanats, and sustainable agricultural techniques played a crucial role in the survival of ancient communities in the region. This study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research in understanding the interactions between humans and their environment and offers solutions for sustainable resource management and the preservation of cultural heritage. The results of this study contribute not only to the understanding of historical and human developments but also provide practical insights for addressing contemporary environmental challenges.

Introduction

Environmental archaeology is an interdisciplinary branch of archaeology that examines the relationship between human societies and the environment in past periods (Campbell, 2018; Wilkinson & Stevens, 2003). This field uses various geological, biological, and paleoclimatic data to reconstruct past environments and analyze the interactions between humans and nature (Reitz et al., 2008). Given the environmental changes throughout history, human societies have always been influenced by these transformations. Climatic changes and geological events have directly impacted lifestyle, economy, and the geographical distribution of societies (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). Archaeological evidence shows that climatic changes have played a decisive role in migration, settlement patterns, and human adaptation strategies (Hudson et al., 2012).

Scientific methods in environmental archaeology include soil and sediment analysis, study of faunal and floral remains, and remote sensing data analysis (Barham & Macphail, 2016; Niknami & Chaychi Amirkhiz, 2008; Howey et al., 2020). These methods help to better understand the use of natural resources, agricultural development, and environmental management practices of ancient societies (McClatchie, 2020). Additionally, modern techniques such as ancient DNA analysis and stable isotopes have provided new insights into human diet and migration patterns (de Vareilles et al., 2021).

Environmental archaeological studies not only analyze tangible environmental remains in archaeological sites but also examine climatic, geomorphological, and ecological factors and their role in the cultural and social development of human societies (Wilkinson & Stevens, 2003). This scientific field helps us better understand the connection between ecosystem changes and cultural dynamics. For example, changes in rainfall and temperature patterns can affect agricultural systems and food supply, leading to the formation of new social structures (Haldon et al., 2018).

The Qom Plain, as an example of an important region in environmental archaeological studies, has contributed to the understanding of environmental and settlement dynamics of past societies. Geomorphological studies and satellite data indicate that this region has been influenced by multiple climatic changes, and settlement patterns have undergone transformations (Masoumi et al., 2021). In this area, climatic changes, including persistent droughts, have directly impacted the livelihoods of past societies and, in some cases, caused severe reductions in water resources and population displacement (see Chaychi & Shaikh Baikloo, 2020; Kaboli, 1999).

The aim of this paper is to analyze the application of environmental archaeological methods in identifying past ecosystem changes and their consequences for human societies. The environmental challenges of today share many similarities with those of past periods. Therefore, environmental archaeological studies can provide solutions for managing natural resources, preserving cultural heritage, and adapting to climatic changes.

 Methodology

This research, using interdisciplinary methods in environmental archaeology, investigates human-environment interactions, specifically in the Qom Plain. This methodology, which combines traditional and modern techniques, enables a more comprehensive understanding of human behavior based on climatic and environmental conditions in the study area and contributes to providing solutions for sustainable resource management and cultural heritage preservation. The research process includes the following steps: (1) collecting and reviewing previous studies in the field of environmental archaeology, focusing on the methods and techniques used to analyze human-environment interactions. (2) Utilizing library resources related to the Qom Plain and similar regions. (3) Reviewing environmental archaeological study methods, including soil and sediment analysis, study of biological remains (plant and animal), and analysis of climatic data. (4) Referencing advanced techniques such as remote sensing (GIS and LiDAR) and geophysical analysis used in environmental archaeological studies to identify archaeological sites and analyze environmental changes. (5) Investigating methods applicable to environmental archaeological studies in the Qom Plain, such as paleoclimatology analysis, ancient sediment and soil studies, and archaeological botany and zooarchaeology studies. (6) Proposing new methods and approaches for future studies in environmental archaeology, with an emphasis on using advanced technologies and interdisciplinary analyses. (7) Highlighting the importance of integrating environmental, archaeological, and paleoclimatic data to better understand human-environment interactions in the past.

  Discussion

Environmental Archaeology of Qom Plain

The Qom Plain is considered one of the most important cultural and historical regions of central Iran, where numerous archaeological evidence from different periods has been found. This area, located on the edge of the central Iranian desert, has been influenced by specific climatic and geographical conditions that played a significant role in shaping human settlement patterns and lifestyles. Geological studies show that climatic changes and geomorphological processes have greatly impacted demographic changes and settlement patterns in this region. Furthermore, natural resources such as groundwater and seasonal rivers like Qomroud and Qarachay have played a key role in attracting human societies from prehistoric to historical periods (Saatsaz & Rezaie, 2021; Gholikandi et al., 2013). Environmental archaeology in the Qom Plain uses data from paleoclimatology, sedimentary studies, and cultural material analysis to reconstruct ancient landscapes. Advanced techniques such as remote sensing (GIS and LiDAR) and geophysical analyses have enabled archaeologists to explore the connection between environmental changes and human behaviors (Lavery, 2023; Chase et al., 2013, 2017; Simbolon & Comer, 2023; Hadjimitsis et al., 2013).

Geographical Location and Environmental Characteristics of the Qom Plain

The Qom Plain is located in northern central Iran and the western part of the central desert. It is bordered by Tehran to the north, the central province and Kashan to the south, the Salt Lake to the east, and the central mountains to the west. The region has an elevation ranging from 900 to 1500 meters above sea level and includes seasonal rivers and salt lakes such as Hoz-e-Soltan and the Qom Desert. The climate of Qom is semi-arid, with annual precipitation less than 165 millimeters, most of which occurs in the colder seasons. Temperature fluctuations in the region are severe, affecting the patterns of life and livelihoods of ancient humans (Shaterian, 2013: 271).

This region has widespread evaporative and alluvial deposits that formed during the Quaternary period (Habibi et al., 2021). Paleoclimatic studies show that during different Holocene periods, several environmental changes occurred in the Qom Plain. For example, during the mid-Holocene, increased moisture led to the expansion of human settlements, while in the late Holocene, repeated droughts led to changes in settlement patterns (Schmidt et al., 2011). Additionally, land subsidence in the region is a major contemporary issue that has been exacerbated by the excessive extraction of groundwater resources and has had a direct impact on the environmental sustainability of the area (Masoumi et al., 2021).
Due to its unique geographical position and proximity to water resources, this region has always served as an important passageway in the communication routes of the central Iranian plateau. Archaeological evidence shows that the area hosted human settlements from the Neolithic to historical periods, benefiting from its natural resources (Kabli, 1999; Sarlak, 2010).

Environment and Natural Resources

The Qom Plain has a variety of natural resources that played a fundamental role in the settlement of ancient communities. The water resources of this region included seasonal rivers like Qarachay, Qomroud, the Salt Lake, and Hoz-e-Soltan, which were valuable resources for drinking water and agriculture in the past (Yousefi et al., 2012). However, climatic changes and natural processes such as land subsidence and increasing soil salinity have gradually had negative effects on these resources (Masoumi et al., 2021). Paleobiological studies and environmental data analysis in the Qom Plain show that natural and climatic changes have had a profound impact on the settlement and livelihoods of human societies (Kabli, 1999). These findings highlight the importance of managing natural resources in arid and semi-arid regions like Qom.

Settlement Distribution Patterns

Archaeological analyses using techniques such as remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have shown that the distribution of archaeological sites in the Qom Plain is influenced by geographical factors such as proximity to water sources and fertile lands (Niknami et al., 2009). These studies show that ancient communities followed specific patterns in their settlements and mostly established them near water routes and alluvial plains (Li, 2024; Deng et al., 2010).
By examining settlement distribution maps, it has been found that the focus of settlements shifted to specific areas in different periods. For instance, during the Neolithic era, most sites were concentrated near water sources, whereas in the Parthian and Sassanid periods, with advances in agricultural knowledge and water management, settlements expanded to wider areas. Spatial pattern analysis using methods like kernel density and point pattern analysis has shown that the distribution of archaeological sites in some areas was clustered, indicating a concentration of human activities in those locations (Kempf & Günther, 2023; Zhu et al., 2021).

In addition to natural factors, political and economic factors have also influenced settlement patterns. Administrative and economic centers in different periods played a significant role in shaping settlement patterns. For example, during the Achaemenid and Sassanid periods, urban centers were established in areas with access to trade routes and natural resources, indicating the role of economy and politics in the spatial distribution of settlements (Gholikandi et al., 2013; Altaweel, 2013).

Overall, the study of settlement distribution patterns in the Qom Plain shows that geographical, climatic, economic, and political factors all played a role in determining the locations of human settlements in different historical periods. Integrating archaeological data with modern remote sensing methods provides a better understanding of past settlement trends, which can also be useful in cultural heritage conservation and historical resource management studies (Elfadaly et al., 2017; Moise et al., 2021).

Climatic Changes and Their Impact on Ancient Societies

Paleoclimatological research shows that the Qom Plain has been influenced by multiple climatic changes over thousands of years. Geological and sedimentary data indicate that during the early Holocene, the region experienced drier conditions, but during the mid-Holocene, moisture levels increased, leading to the expansion of human settlements (Shaikh Baikloo Islam & Chaychi Amirkhiz, 2020). Climatic changes profoundly impacted the livelihoods of ancient communities, leading to migration, changes in agricultural practices, and water resource management (Shaikh Baikloo Islam et al., 2020).
Evidence from soil and sediment analysis shows that climatic changes intensified erosion processes and caused shifts in settlement patterns (Shaikh Baikloo Islam et al., 2023). During certain periods, human communities had to relocate due to the reduction of water resources and the increase in desertification. Conversely, in periods with increased rainfall, evidence of agricultural development and societal growth can be observed (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). For example, Kaboli (1999) in his research and excavations in the Qomroud Basin, based on environmental sedimentology, revealed floods caused by the overflow of the Qomroud River, which led to population displacement and the absence of long-term settlement in part of the area.

Environmental archaeology plays a key role in identifying strategies of past societies in dealing with climatic changes. Studies suggest that some civilizations, using water management techniques such as qanats and small dams, were able to adapt to climatic changes (Kaptijn, 2018). These findings can help understand how modern societies may adapt to environmental changes.
In general, climatic changes in the Qom Plain are recognized as a key factor in the historical transformation of the region. Analyzing paleobiological and sedimentary data enables us to examine past impacts and use them for better understanding of the future (Caseldine & Turney, 2010).
Paleoclimatological studies in various regions of Iran, including those conducted on the Katleh-Khur Cave in Zanjan (Andrews et al., 2020) and the Neor Lake in Ardabil (Sharifi et al., 2015), show that climatic changes in the Holocene had significant effects on ancient societies, especially in northern central Iran. These studies emphasize that temperature fluctuations and changes in rainfall during the Holocene led to environmental instability, which directly impacted the distribution and density of human settlements. For example, the 4.2 ka BP dry event (2200 - 1900 BC) and 3.2 ka BP dry event (1250 - 950 BC) placed immense pressure on societies, leading to cultural decline and changes in settlement patterns (Shaikh Baikloo Islam, 2020). In the Qom Plain, there is also evidence of flood events in the 4th millennium BC, indicating the impact of climatic changes on human societies (Chaychi Amirkhiz & Shaikh Baikloo Islam, 2020). These climatic changes led to the adoption of adaptation strategies such as relocating settlements and developing innovative irrigation systems.

Archaeological-paleoclimatological studies in northern central Iran have shown that during the 3rd and 2nd millennia BC, the inhabitants of the region, due to frequent drought events, shifted their subsistence system from sedentary farming to pastoralism and hunting to adapt to climatic and environmental conditions (Shaikh Baikloo & Chaychi, 2020).

Incorporating these climatic data into environmental archaeology studies in the Qom Plain allows for a more precise analysis of the relationships between environmental changes and settlement dynamics. The existing data show that during certain periods in history, increased biodiversity and improved climatic conditions enabled wider settlements in central Iran, while sudden climatic changes had adverse effects on the sustainability of these societies. These insights help us better understand how environmental changes influenced human societies and their adaptation strategies.

1. Irrigation Systems and Water Management: One of the most important achievements of ancient societies in the Qom Plain was the development of water management systems. Qanats, as a significant innovation, enabled sustainable use of water in dry regions. These systems, which extend for thousands of kilometers, transported groundwater from mountainous areas to agricultural lands, minimizing evaporation and water pollution (Boustani, 2008). In addition to qanats, ancient communities also used irrigation canals and water mills, which helped develop agriculture and the growth of civilizations (Gholikandi et al., 2013).

Agriculture in the Qom Plain heavily relied on qanat irrigation systems. These systems enabled the cultivation of various crops in semi-arid environments and demonstrated the ancient communities' understanding of local ecological capacities (Jomehpour, 2009). Traditional crops like barley and wheat were integrated into agricultural practices, creating a need for new soil and water management strategies (Li et al., 2022). However, qanat systems today face challenges, and researchers suggest that with the help of modern technology, these ancient water extraction methods could be revitalized (Taghavi-Jeloudar et al., 2013).

1. Climate-Responsive Architecture: The hot and dry climate of the Qom Plain has influenced traditional architectural designs. Ancient societies were able to achieve thermal comfort in harsh climatic conditions by using thick walls, small windows, and central courtyards (Hejazi, 2007). The Qajar-era houses in Qom are an example of sustainable architectural principles that show harmony with the local climate (Saedi & Aali, 2021). These climate-sensitive architectural techniques provide valuable insights for contemporary designers seeking to build energy-efficient and comfortable structures in hot and dry climates (Taher Tolou Del et al., 2022; Moosavi, 2011).

Archaeological Methods Used in Qom Plain Studies

In archaeological studies of the Qom Plain, various techniques have been used to examine the history of human settlement and environmental interactions. Modern methods such as remote sensing, geophysical analyses, and bioarchaeological studies have helped researchers gather accurate information about the cultural and natural landscapes of the biosphere-cultural regions (Lambers, 2018).

1. Remote Sensing and GIS Analysis: Remote sensing technology, including the use of satellite images and spatial data modeling, has provided effective tools for mapping archaeological sites (Lasaponara & Masini, 2013). These technologies can be employed in the Qom Plain to identify buried settlements and analyze environmental changes. High-resolution satellite data, such as Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2, have enabled the study of human settlement distribution in relation to climate changes (Alexakis et al., 2012).
2. Geophysical Studies and Non-invasive Excavations: Geophysical analyses, such as magnetometry, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and electrical resistivity, are non-invasive methods used to identify buried structures and settlement layers (Horsley, 2015). In the Qom Plain, these methods can help uncover architectural remains and ancient water supply networks—these networks reflect the advanced knowledge of ancient societies in resource management (Martorana et al., 2023).
3. Bioarchaeological Analyses: Zooarchaeological studies in this region have provided important evidence about the diets, agriculture, and animal husbandry of past societies (Khoshnevis, 2001). By combining paleoecological and zooarchaeological analyses, researchers can study the interactions between humans, plants, and animals, which shaped ecosystems and influenced human actions in the past (Overton & Taylor, 2018). Overall, the combination of these modern methods enhances our understanding of the environmental and cultural history of the Qom Plain and contributes to better conservation of the region’s ancient heritage. In particular, the use of cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence in archaeological data analysis, will revolutionize the future of research in this field (Argyrou & Agapiou, 2022).

 Conclusion

The interaction between humans and the environment is a complex and multifaceted process that has continued throughout history. Studying these interactions in environmental archaeology not only helps in understanding the past but can also provide solutions for managing natural resources and addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Examining historical examples shows that successful societies were those that effectively adapted to environmental changes and developed sustainable strategies. Environmental archaeology of the Qom Plain reflects the intricate interactions between humans and the environment over time. Ancient societies, through the development of water management systems such as qanats and adopting strategies for adapting to climatic changes, were able to sustain themselves in harsh environmental conditions. These approaches not only helped the survival of these societies but also led to the development of ancient civilizations in the region. The results of this study show that interdisciplinary analyses in environmental archaeology enable the accurate reconstruction of past environments and understanding the impact of human activities on ecosystem changes. Moreover, the findings emphasize that advanced methods, such as remote sensing and geological data analysis, play a key role in the sustainable management of natural resources and the protection of cultural heritage. Overall, environmental archaeology, as an interdisciplinary approach, provides valuable insights into both the past and present and contributes to a better understanding of current environmental challenges.

چکیده		اطلاعات مقاله
باستان‌شناسی محیطی به‌عنوان یک رویکرد میان‌رشته‌ای، به بررسی تعاملات پیچیده بین جوامع انسانی و محیط زیست آن‌ها در طول تاریخ می‌پردازد. این پژوهش با تمرکز بر دشت قم، به تحلیل روش‌های مختلفی مانند تحلیل زمین‌سیما، بررسی بقایای زیستی، آنالیز خاک و رسوبات، و داده‌های اقلیمی پرداخته است تا چگونگی بازسازی اکوسیستم‌های گذشته را ارزیابی کند. هدف اصلی این مطالعه، بررسی تأثیر تغییرات زیست‌محیطی بر الگوهای استقراری و معیشتی جوامع باستانی در دشت قم است. با استفاده از تکنیک‌های پیشرفته مانند سنجش از دور (GIS و LiDAR)، تحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی و مطالعات زیست‌باستان‌شناسی، این پژوهش به بازسازی چشم‌اندازهای باستانی و تحلیل تأثیر فعالیت‌های انسانی بر تغییرات اکوسیستمی پرداخته است. یافته‌ها نشان می‌دهند که تغییرات اقلیمی، از جمله خشکسالی‌ها و نوسانات بارندگی، تأثیر مستقیمی بر الگوهای استقراری و شیوه‌های معیشتی جوامع گذشته داشته‌اند. همچنین، توسعه سیستم‌های مدیریت آب مانند قنات‌ها و تکنیک‌های کشاورزی پایدار، نقش کلیدی در بقای جوامع باستانی در این منطقه ایفا کرده است. این پژوهش بر اهمیت مطالعات میان‌رشته‌ای در درک تعاملات انسان و محیط تأکید می‌کند و راهکارهایی برای مدیریت پایدار منابع طبیعی و حفاظت از میراث فرهنگی ارائه می‌دهد. نتایج این مطالعه نه‌تنها به شناخت تحولات تاریخی و انسانی کمک می‌کند، بلکه در مواجهه با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی معاصر نیز کاربرد دارد.		تاریخ‌ها دریافت: ۰۲/۰۸/۱۴۰۳ پذیرش: ۳۰/۰۹/۱۴۰۳

The Role of Advanced Technologies in Reconstructing Past Environmental Changes and Distribution Patterns of Archaeological Sites: A Case Study of the Qom Plain

Environmental archaeology, as an interdisciplinary approach, examines the complex interactions between human societies and their environment throughout history. This study, focusing on the Qom Plain, analyzes various methods such as geomorphological analysis, bioarchaeological remains, soil and sediment analysis, and climate data to evaluate how past ecosystems can be reconstructed. The main aim of this research is to investigate the impact of environmental changes on settlement patterns and subsistence strategies of ancient communities in the Qom Plain. By employing advanced techniques such as remote sensing (GIS and LiDAR), geophysical surveys, and bioarchaeological studies, this research reconstructs ancient landscapes and analyzes the impact of human activities on ecological changes. The findings suggest that climatic changes, including droughts and rainfall fluctuations, directly influenced settlement patterns and subsistence strategies of past communities. Additionally, the development of water management systems, such as qanats, and sustainable agricultural techniques played a crucial role in the survival of ancient communities in the region. This study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research in understanding the interactions between humans and their environment and offers solutions for sustainable resource management and the preservation of cultural heritage. The results of this study contribute not only to the understanding of historical and human developments but also provide practical insights for addressing contemporary environmental challenges. مقدمه

باستان‌شناسی محیطی، شاخه‌ای میان‌رشته‌ای از باستان‌شناسی است که به بررسی رابطه جوامع انسانی با محیط زیست در دوره‌های گذشته می‌پردازد (Campbell, 2018; Wilkinson & Stevens, 2003). این حوزه با استفاده از روش‌های مختلف زمین‌شناسی، زیست‌شناسی و داده‌های دیرین‌اقلیمی، به بازسازی محیط‌های گذشته و تحلیل تأثیر متقابل انسان و طبیعت کمک می‌کند (Reitz et al., 2008). با توجه به تغییرات زیست‌محیطی در طول تاریخ، جوامع انسانی همواره تحت تأثیر این دگرگونی‌ها بوده‌اند. تغییرات اقلیمی و تحولات زمین‌شناسی به‌طور مستقیم بر سبک زندگی، اقتصاد و توزیع جغرافیایی جوامع تأثیر گذاشته‌اند (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). شواهد باستان‌شناسی نشان می‌دهند که تغییرات اقلیمی، نقش تعیین‌کننده‌ای در مهاجرت، الگوهای استقراری و راهبردهای سازگاری انسان‌ها با محیط داشته‌اند (Hudson et al., 2012).

روش‌های علمی در باستان‌شناسی محیطی شامل تحلیل خاک و رسوبات، مطالعه بقایای جانوری و گیاهی و بررسی داده‌های سنجش از دور است (Barham & Macphail, 2016; Niknami & Chaychi Amirkhiz, 2008; Howey et al., 2020). این روش‌ها به درک بهتر استفاده از منابع طبیعی، توسعة کشاورزی و شیوه‌های مدیریت زیست‌محیطی جوامع باستانی کمک می‌کنند (McClatchie, 2020). همچنین، تکنیک‌های نوین مانند تحلیل DNA باستانی و ایزوتوپ‌های پایدار، دیدگاه‌های جدیدی در مورد رژیم غذایی و جابه‌جایی‌های انسانی ارائه داده‌اند (de Vareilles et al., 2021).

مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی نه تنها به تحلیل آثار ملموس محیطی در محوطه‌های باستانی می‌پردازد، بلکه به بررسی عوامل اقلیمی، ژئومورفولوژیکی و اکولوژیکی و نقش آن‌ها در توسعة فرهنگی و اجتماعی جوامع انسانی توجه دارد (Wilkinson & Stevens, 2003). این رشتة علمی به ما کمک می‌کند تا ارتباط میان تغییرات اکوسیستمی و پویایی‌های فرهنگی را بهتر درک کنیم. برای مثال، تغییرات در الگوهای بارش و دما می‌توانند بر نظام‌های زراعی و تأمین غذا تأثیر بگذارند و باعث شکل‌گیری ساختارهای اجتماعی جدید شوند (Haldon et al., 2018).

دشت قم، به‌عنوان نمونه‌ای از مناطق مهم در مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی، به درک پویایی‌های زیست‌محیطی و استقراری جوامع گذشته کمک کرده است. بررسی‌های ژئومورفولوژیکی و داده‌های ماهواره‌ای نشان می‌دهند که این منطقه از تغییرات اقلیمی متعددی تأثیر پذیرفته و الگوهای استقرار در آن دستخوش دگرگونی شده‌اند (Masoumi et al., 2021). در این منطقه، تغییرات اقلیمی از جمله خشکسالی‌های مداوم، تأثیر مستقیم بر شیوه‌های معیشتی جوامع گذشته داشته‌اند و در برخی موارد باعث کاهش شدید منابع آبی و جابه‌جایی جمعیت شده‌اند (نک. چایچی‌ و شیخ بیکلو، ۱۳۹۹؛ کابلی، ۱۳۷۸).

هدف از این مقاله تحلیل کاربرد روش‌های باستان‌شناسی محیطی در شناسایی تغییرات زیست‌بوم‌های گذشته و پیامدهای آن‌ها بر جوامع انسانی است. چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی امروز شباهت‌های زیادی با دوره‌‌های گذشته دارند. به همین دلیل، مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی می‌توانند به ارائه راهکارهایی برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی، حفاظت از میراث فرهنگی و سازگاری با تغییرات اقلیمی کمک کنند.

 

روش‌شناسی پژوهش

این پژوهش با استفاده از روش‌های میان‌رشته‌ای در باستان‌شناسی محیطی، به بررسی تعاملات انسان و محیط، به‌طور خاص در دشت قم، پرداخته است. این روش‌شناسی که ترکیبی از تکنیک‌های سنتی و مدرن است، امکان درک جامع‌تری از رفتار انسانی بر اساس شرایط اقلیمی و محیطی در منطقه مورد مطالعه را فراهم کرده و به ارائه راهکارهایی برای مدیریت پایدار منابع طبیعی و حفاظت از میراث فرهنگی کمک می‌کند. روش پژوهش شامل مراحل پیش رو است: (۱) جمع‌آوری و بررسی مطالعات پیشین در حوزه باستان‌شناسی محیطی، با تأکید بر روش‌ها و تکنیک‌های مورد استفاده در تحلیل تعاملات انسان و محیط. (۲) استفاده از منابع کتابخانه‌ای مرتبط با دشت قم و مناطق مشابه. (۳) بررسی روش‌های مطالعاتی باستان‌شناسی محیطی، از جمله تحلیل خاک و رسوبات، بررسی بقایای زیستی (گیاهی و جانوری) و تحلیل داده‌های اقلیمی. (۴) اشاره به تکنیک‌های پیشرفته مانند سنجش از دور (GIS و LiDAR) و تحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی که در مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی برای شناسایی محوطه‌های باستانی و تحلیل تغییرات محیطی مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرند. (۵) بررسی روش‌هایی که در مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی دشت قم قابلیت به‌کارگیری دارند، از جمله تحلیل‌های دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی، بررسی رسوبات و خاک‌های باستانی و مطالعات باستان‌گیاه‌شناسی و باستان‌جانورشناسی. (۶) پیشنهاد روش‌ها و رویکردهای جدید برای مطالعات آینده در حوزه باستان‌شناسی محیطی، با تأکید بر استفاده از فناوری‌های پیشرفته و تحلیل‌های میان‌رشته‌ای. (۷) تأکید بر اهمیت ادغام داده‌های محیطی، باستان‌شناسی و دیرین‌اقلیمی برای درک بهتر تعاملات انسان و محیط در گذشته.

 

بحث

۱. تعامل انسان و محیط

تعامل انسان و محیط یکی از موضوعات کلیدی در باستان‌شناسی محیطی است که به تأثیرات متقابل جوامع انسانی و محیط طبیعی در طول تاریخ می‌پردازد. جوامع انسانی برای بقا، توسعة فناوری‌ها و ساخت جوامع پیچیده از منابع طبیعی استفاده کرده‌اند. این تعاملات، از تغییرات اقلیمی و استفاده از زمین گرفته تا مدیریت منابع آب و کشاورزی، تأثیر عمیقی بر ساختار اجتماعی و اقتصادی جوامع گذشته داشته است (Wilkinson & Stevens, 2003; Revelles, 2021).

این روابط در دوره‌های مختلف و مکان‌های جغرافیایی متفاوت الگوهای گوناگونی داشته است. در برخی مناطق، جوامع با ایجاد نظام‌های پایدار برای بهره‌برداری از محیط خود، به موفقیت دست یافتند، در حالی که در دیگر مناطق، تخریب منابع طبیعی و بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی منجر به فروپاشی فرهنگی و اقتصادی شده است (Kaniewski, 2013). به‌عنوان مثال، تمدن‌های بین‌النهرین و مصر باستان با مدیریت منابع آبی و کشاورزی، شهرهای پایداری را ایجاد کردند (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). در مقابل، تمدن‌هایی مانند مایاها و آنسازازی‌ها به دلیل بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی، از جمله خشکسالی‌های طولانی‌مدت، دچار فروپاشی شدند (Haug et al., 2003; Diamond, 2001).

مطالعه تعامل انسان و محیط در مناطق خشک و نیمه‌خشک مانند دشت قم اهمیت ویژه‌ای دارد. تغییرات اقلیمی و نوسانات بارندگی در این منطقه تأثیر مستقیم بر نظام‌های استقراری و معیشتی جوامع گذشته گذاشته است. پژوهش‌ها نشان می‌دهند که در دوره‌هایی از تاریخ، کاهش منابع آبی باعث تغییر در شیوه‌های سکونت و حتی مهاجرت گروه‌های انسانی شده است (Mirshekaran, 2020; Schewe et al., 2014). این نمونه‌ها نشان می‌دهد که درک روابط انسان و محیط می‌تواند به مدیریت منابع طبیعی در شرایط تغییرات اقلیمی امروز کمک کند.

نقش فناوری در تعامل انسان و محیط نیز حائز اهمیت است. توسعة فناوری‌های آبیاری، دامداری پایدار و استفاده از گونه‌های مقاوم گیاهی نمونه‌هایی از استراتژی‌هایی هستند که جوامع گذشته برای تطبیق با محیط خود به کار گرفتند (Campbell, 2018). شواهد نشان می‌دهند که جوامع کشاورز اولیه با انتخاب بذرهای مقاوم‌تر و بهبود روش‌های مدیریت خاک، به پایداری بیشتری در بهره‌برداری از منابع دست یافته‌اند (Gildemacher, 2012). این تکنیک‌ها می‌توانند به طراحی راهکارهای جدیدی برای مقابله با بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی معاصر کمک کنند.

در مجموع، تعامل انسان و محیط فرایندی پیچیده است که تأثیرات گسترده‌ای بر تحولات فرهنگی، اقتصادی و اجتماعی جوامع دارد. بررسی این تعاملات در باستان‌شناسی محیطی نه‌تنها به درک تاریخ گذشته کمک می‌کند، بلکه می‌تواند به توسعه راهبردهای پایدار برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی و مقابله با تغییرات زیست‌محیطی امروز یاری رساند (Anshori et al., 2023; Tiloca et al., 2024).

۲. استفاده از منابع طبیعی و فناوری‌های سازگارانه

یکی از مهم‌ترین جنبه‌های تعامل انسان و محیط، نحوة استفاده از منابع طبیعی است. جوامع باستانی از منابع آبی، پوشش گیاهی و حیات‌وحش برای تأمین غذا، سرپناه و مواد اولیه مورد نیاز خود بهره می‌بردند. این استفاده‌ها بسته به شرایط اقلیمی، دسترسی به منابع و نیازهای اقتصادی و اجتماعی هر جامعه، متفاوت بوده است. به‌طور کلی، جوامع انسانی برای بهینه‌سازی استفاده از منابع طبیعی، فناوری‌های خاصی را توسعه دادند که برخی از آن‌ها تا به امروز مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرند. برای مثال، استفاده از فناوری‌های آبیاری در بین‌النهرین و ایران باستان، راهکاری برای مقابله با کمبود آب و گسترش کشاورزی بود (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). سیستم‌های قنات و کانال‌های آب زیرزمینی در ایران باستان نمونه‌ای برجسته از فناوری‌های سنتی مدیریت آب هستند که امکان بهره‌برداری پایدار از منابع آبی زیرزمینی را فراهم می‌کردند. این فناوری نه‌تنها به توسعة کشاورزی کمک می‌کرد، بلکه موجب شکل‌گیری مراکز جمعیتی پایدار نیز می‌شد (Saatsaz & Rezaie, 2021; Gholikandi et al., 2013).

در کنار آبیاری، روش‌های زراعی مانند تراس‌بندی، کاشت تناوبی

و استفاده از کودهای طبیعی به کاهش فرسایش خاک و بهبود بهره‌وری کشاورزی کمک می‌کردند. برخی از این تکنیک‌ها هنوز هم در بسیاری از نقاط جهان مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرند. به‌عنوان نمونه، کشاورزی پلکانی در دامنه‌های کوهستانی از فرسایش خاک جلوگیری کرده و بهره‌وری را افزایش می‌دهد. همچنین، شواهد باستان‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که برخی جوامع باستانی از گونه‌های گیاهی مقاوم به خشکی استفاده می‌کردند تا تولید محصولات کشاورزی را تضمین کنند (McClatchie, 2020).

از سوی دیگر، بهره‌برداری از جنگل‌ها و مراتع نیز در توسعه اقتصادی جوامع گذشته نقش مهمی ایفا کرده است. جوامع پیش‌ازتاریخی چوب را برای ساخت خانه‌ها، ابزار و سوخت استفاده می‌کردند، اما بهره‌برداری ناپایدار از منابع چوبی گاهی منجر به جنگل‌زدایی و نابودی اکوسیستم‌ها شد. در برخی مناطق، استفاده بی‌رویه از منابع طبیعی، تأثیرات منفی بلندمدتی بر محیط زیست گذاشت و حتی موجب زوال تمدن‌های پیشرفته شد (Ehrlich & Ehrlich, 2013). همچنین، در جوامع گذشته روش‌های بهره‌برداری از منابع جانوری توسعه یافت. شکار و دامپروری از جمله شیوه‌های معیشتی مهم بودند که بسته به شرایط محیطی و نیازهای اقتصادی تغییر می‌کردند. در برخی فرهنگ‌ها، مدیریت پایدار منابع جانوری، مانند پرورش احشام با سیستم‌های چراگردانی، باعث حفظ مراتع و جلوگیری از فرسایش خاک شد. در مقابل، شکار بی‌رویه و از بین بردن گونه‌های کلیدی در برخی جوامع، تعادل اکولوژیکی را بر هم زد و منجر به بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی شد (Rick & Sandweiss, 2020).

در مجموع، استفاده از منابع طبیعی و توسعه فناوری‌های سازگارانه نقش مهمی در بقای جوامع باستانی ایفا کرده است. بررسی این تعاملات در باستان‌شناسی محیطی به ما کمک می‌کند تا الگوهای پایداری گذشته را شناسایی کنیم و از آن‌ها در مدیریت منابع طبیعی امروز بهره ببریم. روش‌های سنتی مدیریت منابع مانند قنات‌ها، تراس‌بندی کشاورزی و دامپروری پایدار، هنوز هم در بسیاری از مناطق جهان کارآمد هستند و می‌توانند در مواجهه با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی مدرن مورد استفاده قرار گیرند.

۳. تغییرات اقلیمی و تأثیر آن بر جوامع انسانی

تغییرات اقلیمی یکی از عوامل کلیدی تأثیرگذار بر جوامع انسانی در طول تاریخ بوده است. شواهد باستان‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که تغییرات در دما، میزان بارندگی، و شدت خشک‌سالی‌ها تأثیر مستقیمی بر الگوهای استقراری، نظام‌های معیشتی، و پایداری جوامع داشته است. بررسی‌های دیرین‌اقلیمی نشان داده‌اند که نوسانات اقلیمی در بسیاری از مناطق جهان موجب کاهش منابع آبی، افت حاصلخیزی خاک و تغییر در تنوع زیستی شده است که به نوبه خود بر کشاورزی، دامداری و امنیت غذایی تأثیر گذاشته است (Haldon et al., 2018).

در برخی موارد، تغییرات اقلیمی ناگهانی باعث بروز بحران‌های اقتصادی و اجتماعی شده است. برای مثال، در دوران مفرغ میانه، خشک‌سالی‌های طولانی‌مدت در شرق مدیترانه به کاهش تولیدات کشاورزی، کمبود منابع آبی و در نهایت فروپاشی تمدن‌هایی مانند مینوسیان‌ها و هیتی‌ها انجامید. شواهد به‌دست‌آمده از رسوبات دریاچه‌ها و لایه‌های زمین‌شناسی نشان می‌دهند که در این دوران، رویداد‌های پی‌درپی خشک‌سالی و کاهش بارندگی منجر به جابه‌جایی جمعیت و شکل‌گیری جنگ‌ها بر سر منابع طبیعی شده است (Weiss, 2017).

افزون بر این، تغییرات اقلیمی در برخی موارد می‌توانند به توسعه یا تغییر الگوهای معیشتی منجر شوند. در مناطقی که افزایش دما و کاهش بارندگی باعث خشک شدن منابع آب شده، جوامع باستانی به سمت دامداری و کوچ‌نشینی گرایش پیدا کرده‌اند (شیخ بیکلو اسلام و چایچی امیرخیز، ۱۳۹۹). در مقابل، در برخی مناطق، افزایش رطوبت و بهبود شرایط اقلیمی موجب شکوفایی کشاورزی و افزایش جمعیت شده است. نمونه‌ای از این روند در دوره نوسنگی در منطقه هلال حاصلخیز مشاهده شده است که افزایش بارندگی و تغییرات مثبت اقلیمی، زمینه‌ساز شکل‌گیری نخستین روستاهای کشاورزی شد (Roberts et al., 2017).

به‌طور کلی، مطالعه تغییرات اقلیمی در جوامع گذشته می‌تواند به درک بهتر تأثیرات این تغییرات در جوامع امروزی کمک کند. بررسی واکنش‌های جوامع باستانی به نوسانات اقلیمی می‌تواند راهکارهایی را برای مدیریت پایدار منابع طبیعی و مقابله با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی معاصر ارائه دهد. تحلیل داده‌های دیرین‌اقلیمی، مدل‌سازی تغییرات آب‌وهوایی و مقایسه آن‌ها با داده‌های تاریخی می‌تواند در توسعه راهبردهای پایدار برای مقابله با پیامدهای تغییر اقلیم مفید باشد.

۴. مدیریت محیطی و استراتژی‌های سازگاری

جوامع گذشته نه‌تنها تحت تأثیر تغییرات محیطی بودند، بلکه راهکارهایی برای سازگاری و مدیریت منابع خود نیز توسعه دادند.

این استراتژی‌ها شامل استفاده پایدار از منابع طبیعی، تغییر الگوهای سکونتی، بهره‌گیری از فناوری‌های سازگار با محیط و توسعه شیوه‌های نوین کشاورزی و مدیریت منابع آب بود. شواهد باستان‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که بسیاری از جوامع گذشته برای مقابله با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی، از فناوری‌هایی مانند سدسازی، کانال‌های آبیاری و ذخیره‌سازی آب بهره می‌بردند (Campbell, 2018; ). همچنین، بررسی‌های انجام‌شده در محوطه‌های باستانی نشان می‌دهد که برخی از جوامع، راهبردهای تغییر الگوهای سکونتی را به‌عنوان یک پاسخ به تغییرات اقلیمی اتخاذ کرده‌اند. برای مثال، در برخی مناطق، تغییرات ناگهانی در شرایط زیست‌محیطی موجب جابه‌جایی گسترده جمعیت‌ها به نواحی با شرایط مساعدتر شده است (Shaikh Baikloo et al., 2016). در مقابل، برخی دیگر از جوامع با اجرای سیاست‌های بهره‌برداری پایدار و افزایش انعطاف‌پذیری در معیشت، موفق به بقا و تداوم فرهنگ خود در شرایط دشوار محیطی شده‌اند. در مجموع، بررسی استراتژی‌های سازگاری جوامع گذشته با تغییرات زیست‌محیطی نشان می‌دهد که مدیریت پایدار منابع و انعطاف‌پذیری در شیوه‌های معیشتی، نقشی کلیدی در بقای جوامع داشته است. مطالعه این رویکردها می‌تواند بینش‌های ارزشمندی برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی و مقابله با بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی معاصر ارائه دهد (Rivera-Collazo, 2022).

۵. مطالعه موردی: باستان‌شناسی محیطی دشت قم

دشت قم یکی از مهم‌ترین مناطق فرهنگی و تاریخی ایران مرکزی محسوب می‌شود که شواهد باستان‌شناسی بسیاری از دوره‌های مختلف در آن یافت شده است. این منطقه که در حاشیة کویر مرکزی ایران قرار دارد، تحت تأثیر شرایط اقلیمی و جغرافیایی خاصی بوده که نقش مهمی در شکل‌گیری الگوهای استقرار و زندگی انسانی داشته است. بررسی‌های زمین‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که تغییرات اقلیمی و فرایندهای زمین‌ریخت‌شناسی، تأثیر بسزایی در تغییرات جمعیتی و الگوی استقرار در این منطقه داشته‌اند. علاوه‌براین، منابع طبیعی مانند آب‌های زیرزمینی و رودخانه‌های فصلی مانند قمرود و قره‌چای در جذب جوامع انسانی از دوره‌های پیش‌ازتاریخ تا دوران تاریخی نقش کلیدی ایفا کرده‌اند (Saatsaz & Rezaie, 2021; Gholikandi et al., 2013).

باستان‌شناسی محیطی در دشت قم، از داده‌های حاصل از دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی، بررسی‌های رسوب‌شناسی، و تحلیل مواد فرهنگی برای بازسازی چشم‌اندازهای باستانی استفاده می‌کند. تکنیک‌های پیشرفته مانند سنجش از دور (GIS و LiDAR) و تحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی، به باستان‌شناسان امکان داده تا ارتباط بین تحولات محیطی و رفتارهای انسانی را بررسی کنند (Lavery, 2023; Chase et al., 2013, 2017; Simbolon & Comer, 2023; Hadjimitsis et al., 2013).

۱.۵. موقعیت جغرافیایی و ویژگی‌های محیطی دشت قم

دشت قم در شمال ایران مرکزی و در بخش غربی کویر مرکزی قرار گرفته و از شمال به تهران، از جنوب به استان مرکزی و کاشان، از شرق به دریاچه نمک و از غرب به ارتفاعات مرکزی محدود می‌شود. این منطقه دارای ارتفاعی بین ۹۰۰ تا ۱۵۰۰ متر از سطح دریا است و شامل رودخانه‌های فصلی و دریاچه‌های نمکی مانند حوض سلطان و کویر قم می‌باشد. اقلیم قم نیمه‌بیابانی است و میزان بارش سالانه آن کمتر از ۱۶۵ میلی‌متر است که بیشتر در فصول سرد سال رخ می‌دهد. نوسانات دمایی در این منطقه شدید بوده و بر الگوهای زندگی و معیشتی انسان‌های باستانی تأثیرگذار بوده است (شاطریان، ۱۳۹۲: ۲۷۱).

این منطقه از لحاظ زمین‌شناسی دارای رسوبات تبخیری و آبرفتی گسترده‌ای است که در دوران کواترنری شکل گرفته‌اند (Habibi et al., 2021). بررسی‌های دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی نشان داده که در دوره‌های مختلف هولوسن، تغییرات محیطی متعددی در دشت قم رخ داده است. به‌عنوان مثال، در هولوسن میانی افزایش رطوبت منجر به گسترش سکونتگاه‌های انسانی شده، در حالی که در هولوسن متأخر، خشک‌سالی‌های مکرر به تغییر در الگوهای استقرار منجر شده است (Schmidt et al., 2011). علاوه بر این، فرونشست زمین در این منطقه یکی از مشکلات اساسی امروزی است که به دلیل برداشت بی‌رویه از منابع آب زیرزمینی تشدید شده و تأثیر مستقیمی بر پایداری زیست‌محیطی منطقه داشته است (Masoumi et al., 2021).

به دلیل موقعیت جغرافیایی خاص و نزدیکی به منابع آبی، این منطقه همواره به‌عنوان گذرگاه مهمی در مسیر ارتباطی فلات مرکزی ایران مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. شواهد باستان‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که این منطقه در دوره‌های مختلف، از نوسنگی تا نشان می‌دهد که این منطقه در دوره‌های مختلف، از نوسنگی تا دوران تاریخی، میزبان سکونتگاه‌های انسانی بوده است که از منابع طبیعی آن بهره می‌بردند (کابلی، ۱۳۷۸؛ سرلک، ۱۳۸۹).

۲.۵. محیط زیست و منابع طبیعی

دشت قم دارای مجموعه‌ای از منابع طبیعی است که نقش اساسی در استقرار جوامع باستانی داشته‌اند. منابع آبی این منطقه شامل رودخانه‌های فصلی مانند قره‌چای، قمرود و دریاچة‌ نمک و حوض سلطان بوده است که در دوران‌ گذشته منابع ارزشمندی برای تأمین آب شرب و کشاورزی محسوب می‌شدند (یوسفی و همکاران، ۱۳۹۱). با این حال، تغییرات اقلیمی و فرایندهای طبیعی مانند فرونشست زمین و افزایش شوری خاک، به‌مرور تأثیرات منفی بر این منابع داشته‌اند (Masoumi et al., 2021). مطالعات دیرین‌زیست‌شناسی و تحلیل داده‌های محیطی در دشت قم نشان می‌دهد که تغییرات طبیعی و اقلیمی تأثیر عمیقی بر استقرار و معیشت جوامع انسانی داشته‌اند (کابلی، ۱۳۷۸). این یافته‌ها اهمیت مدیریت منابع طبیعی را در مناطق خشک و نیمه‌خشک مانند قم برجسته می‌سازد.

۳.۵. الگوی پراکنش استقرارهای باستانی

تحلیل‌های باستان‌شناسی با استفاده از تکنیک‌هایی مانند سنجش از دور و سیستم‌های اطلاعات جغرافیایی (GIS) نشان داده است که توزیع محوطه‌های باستانی در دشت قم تابعی از عوامل جغرافیایی مانند نزدیکی به منابع آب و زمین‌های حاصلخیز بوده است (Niknami et al., 2009). این مطالعات نشان می‌دهد که جوامع باستانی الگوهای مشخصی را در استقرار انتخاب می‌کردند و سکونتگاه‌های خود را عمدتاً در نزدیکی مسیرهای آبی و دشت‌های آبرفتی ایجاد می‌نمودند (Li, 2024; Deng et al., 2010).

با بررسی نقشه‌های توزیع سکونتگاه‌ها، مشخص شده که در دوره‌های مختلف، تمرکز استقرارها در مناطقی خاص تغییر کرده است. برای مثال، در عصر نوسنگی، بیشتر محوطه‌ها در نزدیکی منابع آبی متمرکز بوده‌اند، در حالی که در دوره‌های اشکانی و ساسانی، با افزایش دانش کشاورزی و مدیریت منابع آب، استقرارها به مناطق وسیع‌تری گسترش یافته‌اند. تحلیل الگوهای فضایی با استفاده از روش‌هایی مانند تراکم هسته‌ای و تحلیل الگوی نقطه‌ای نشان داده است که پراکنش محوطه‌های باستانی در برخی مناطق به‌صورت خوشه‌ای بوده که نشانگر تمرکز فعالیت‌های انسانی در آن نقاط است (Kempf & Günther, 2023; Zhu et al., 2021).

علاوه بر فاکتورهای طبیعی، عوامل سیاسی و اقتصادی نیز بر الگوهای استقراری تأثیر گذاشته‌اند. مراکز اداری و اقتصادی در دوره‌های مختلف، نقش مهمی در شکل‌گیری الگوهای استقرار داشته‌اند. برای مثال، در دوران هخامنشی و ساسانی، مراکز شهری در مناطقی با دسترسی به مسیرهای تجاری و منابع طبیعی شکل گرفته‌اند که نشان‌دهنده نقش اقتصاد و سیاست در توزیع مکانی سکونتگاه‌هاست (Gholikandi et al., 2013; Altaweel, 2013).

به‌طور کلی، بررسی الگوهای پراکنش استقرارهای باستانی در دشت قم نشان می‌دهد که عوامل جغرافیایی، اقلیمی، اقتصادی و سیاسی همگی در تعیین محل سکونتگاه‌های انسانی در دوره‌های مختلف تاریخی نقش داشته‌اند. ادغام داده‌های باستان‌شناسی با روش‌های مدرن سنجش از دور، امکان درک بهتری از روندهای استقراری گذشته را فراهم کرده است که می‌تواند در مطالعات حفاظت از میراث فرهنگی و مدیریت منابع تاریخی نیز مفید باشد (Elfadaly et al., 2017; Moise et al., 2021).

۴.۵. تغییرات اقلیمی و تأثیر آن بر جوامع باستانی

تحقیقات دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که دشت قم در طول هزاران سال، تحت تأثیر تغییرات اقلیمی متعددی قرار گرفته است. داده‌های زمین‌شناسی و رسوب‌شناسی نشان می‌دهد که در دوره هولوسن اولیه، این منطقه شاهد شرایط خشک‌تری بوده، اما در هولوسن میانی، میزان رطوبت افزایش یافته که به گسترش سکونتگاه‌های انسانی انجامیده است (Shaikh Baikloo Islam & Chaychi Amirkhiz, 2020). تغییرات آب‌وهوایی تأثیر عمیقی بر معیشت جوامع باستانی داشته و به مهاجرت، تغییر در شیوه‌های زراعت و تنظیم منابع آبی منجر شده است (شیخ بیکلو اسلام و همکاران، ۱۳۹۹).

شواهد به‌دست‌آمده از آنالیز خاک و رسوبات نشان می‌دهد که تغییرات اقلیمی، فرایندهای فرسایشی را تشدید کرده و باعث جابجایی الگوهای سکونتگاهی شده است (Shaikh Baikloo Islam et al., 2023). در برخی از دوره‌ها، جوامع انسانی به دلیل کاهش منابع آبی و افزایش بیابان‌زایی، مجبور به تغییر مکان شده‌اند. در مقابل، در دوره‌هایی که افزایش بارندگی مشاهده شده، شواهدی از توسعه کشاورزی و رشد جوامع دیده می‌شود (Reitz & Shackley, 2012). برای مثال، کابلی (۱۳۷۸) در بررسی‌ها و کاوش‌های حوضة قمرود، بر اساس رسوب‌شناسی محیطی حاشیة قره‌تپه، از وقوع سیل‌های ناشی از طغیان قمرود پرده برداشت که سبب جابجایی جمعیت و عدم سکونت طولانی‌مدت در بخشی از این ناحیه شده‌ بودند.

باستان‌شناسی محیطی، نقش مهمی در شناسایی راهبردهای جوامع گذشته در مواجهه با تغییرات اقلیمی دارد. مطالعات نشان می‌دهد که برخی از تمدن‌ها با استفاده از تکنیک‌های مدیریت آب، مانند ساخت قنات‌ها و سدهای کوچک، توانسته‌اند با تغییرات اقلیمی سازگار شوند (Kaptijn, 2018). این یافته‌ها می‌تواند به درک بهتر الگوهای سازگاری جوامع امروزی با تغییرات زیست‌محیطی کمک کند.

در مجموع، تغییرات اقلیمی در دشت قم به‌عنوان یک عامل کلیدی در تحول تاریخی منطقه شناخته می‌شود. تحلیل داده‌های دیرین‌زیست‌محیطی و رسوب‌شناسی، به ما این امکان را می‌دهد که تأثیرات گذشته را بررسی کرده و از آن‌ها برای درک بهتر آینده استفاده کنیم (Caseldine & Turney, 2010).

مطالعات دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی در مناطق مختلف ایران، از جمله بررسی‌های انجام‌شده بر روی غار کتله‌خور زنجان (Andrews et al., 2020) و دریاچه نئور اردبیل (Sharifi et al., 2015)، نشان می‌دهند که تغییرات اقلیمی در عصر هولوسن تأثیرات مهمی بر جوامع باستانی، به‌ویژه در شمال مرکزی ایران، داشته‌اند. این مطالعات تأکید دارند که نوسانات دمایی و تغییرات بارندگی طی هولوسن منجر به بی‌ثباتی محیطی شده‌اند که پیامدهای مستقیمی بر پراکنش و تراکم سکونتگاه‌های انسانی داشته است. به‌عنوان مثال، رویدادهای اقلیمی خشک ۲/۴ هزارسال‌پیش (۲۲۰۰ تا ۱۹۰۰ ق.م) و ۲/۳ هزارسال‌پیش (۱۲۵۰ تا ۹۵۰ ق.م) فشار سختی بر جوامع وارد کردند و منجر به افول فرهنگی و تغییر در الگوهای سکونتگاهی شدند (Shaikh Baikloo Islam, 2020). در دشت قم نیز شواهدی از رخدادهای سیل در هزاره چهارم قبل از میلاد وجود دارد که نشان‌دهنده تأثیر تغییرات اقلیمی بر جوامع انسانی است (چایچی امیرخیز و شیخ بیکلو اسلام، ۱۳۹۹). این تغییرات اقلیمی منجر به اتخاذ استراتژی‌های سازگاری مانند جابه‌جایی سکونتگاه‌ها و توسعه سیستم‌های آبیاری نوآورانه شد. مطالعات باستان‌شناسی ـ دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی در شمال ایران مرکزی نشان داده است که ساکنان این منطقه طی هزاره‌های سوم و دوم قبل از میلاد، به دلیل بروز رویدادهای مکرر خشک‌سالی، نظام معیشتی خود را از یکجانشینی ـ دهقانی به کوچرو ـ گله‌داری و شکارگری تغییر داده بودند تا خود را با شرایط آب‌وهوایی و زیست‌محیطی سازگار نمایند (شیخ‌ بیکلو اسلام و چایچی، ۱۳۹۹).

افزودن این داده‌های اقلیمی به مطالعات باستان‌شناسی محیطی دشت قم، امکان تحلیل دقیق‌تر روابط بین تغییرات محیطی و پویایی‌های سکونتگاهی را فراهم می‌کند. داده‌های موجود نشان می‌دهند که در دوره‌هایی از تاریخ، افزایش تنوع زیستی و بهبود شرایط اقلیمی، سکونتگاه‌های وسیع‌تری را در مناطق مرکزی ایران ممکن ساخته، درحالی‌که تغییرات ناگهانی در اقلیم، تأثیرات نامطلوبی بر پایداری این جوامع داشته است. این اطلاعات به درک بهتر چگونگی تأثیر تغییرات محیطی بر جوامع انسانی و شیوه‌های سازگاری آن‌ها کمک می‌کند.

 ۱.۴.۵. سیستم‌های آبیاری و مدیریت آب

یکی از مهم‌ترین دستاوردهای جوامع باستانی در دشت قم، توسعه سیستم‌های مدیریت آب بوده است. قنات‌ها به‌عنوان یک نوآوری مهم، امکان استفاده پایدار از آب را در مناطق خشک فراهم کردند. این سیستم‌ها که هزاران کیلومتر را در بر می‌گیرند، آب‌های زیرزمینی را از مناطق کوهستانی به زمین‌های کشاورزی منتقل می‌کردند و تبخیر و آلودگی آب را به حداقل می‌رساندند (Boustani, 2008). علاوه بر قنات‌ها، جوامع باستانی از کانال‌های آبیاری و آسیاب‌های آبی نیز استفاده می‌کردند که به توسعه کشاورزی و رشد تمدن‌ها کمک کرد (Gholikandi et al., 2013).

کشاورزی در دشت قم به شدت به سیستم‌های آبیاری قناتی متکی بود. این سیستم‌ها امکان کشت محصولات مختلف را در محیط‌های نیمه‌خشک فراهم کردند و نشان‌دهنده درک جوامع باستانی از ظرفیت‌های بوم‌شناختی محلی بودند (Jomehpour, 2009). محصولات سنتی مانند جو و گندم در شیوه‌های کشاورزی ادغام شدند و نیاز به استراتژی‌های جدید مدیریت خاک و آب را ایجاد کردند (Li et al., 2022). با این حال، سیستم‌های قنات در دوران مدرن با چالش‌هایی مواجه شده‌اند و محققان پیشنهاد می‌کنند که با بهره‌گیری از فناوری‌های جدید، می‌توان این روش قدیمی استخراج آب را احیا کرد (Taghavi-Jeloudar et al., 2013).

۲.۴.۵. معماری سازگارانه با اقلیم و محیط

اقلیم گرم و خشک دشت قم بر طراحی‌های معماری سنتی نیز تأثیر گذاشته است. جوامع باستانی با استفاده از دیوارهای ضخیم، پنجره‌های کوچک و حیاط‌های مرکزی، توانستند آسایش حرارتی را در شرایط سخت اقلیمی فراهم کنند (Hejazi, 2007). خانه‌های دوره قاجار در قم نمونه‌ای از اصول معماری پایدار هستند که هماهنگی با اقلیم محلی را نشان می‌دهند (Saedi & Aali, 2021). این فنون معماری حساس به اقلیم، بینش‌های ارزشمندی را برای طراحان معاصر ارائه می‌دهند که به دنبال احداث ساختمان‌هایی با انرژی کارآمد و راحت در آب و هوای گرم و خشک هستند (Taher Tolou Del et al., 2022; Moosavi, 2011 ).

۵.۵. روش‌های باستان‌شناسی مورد استفاده در مطالعات دشت قم

در مطالعات باستان‌شناسی دشت قم از فنون متنوعی برای بررسی پیشینة استقرار انسانی و تعاملات زیست‌محیطی استفاده شده است. روش‌های مدرنی مانند سنجش از دور، تحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی و مطالعات زیست‌باستان‌شناسی به محققان کمک کرده‌اند تا اطلاعات دقیقی از چشم‌اندازهای فرهنگی و طبیعی مناطق زیستی ـ فرهنگی به دست آورند (Lambers, 2018).

۱.۵.۵. سنجش از دور و تحلیل GIS

فناوری سنجش از دور، از جمله استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای و مدل‌سازی داده‌های مکانی، ابزارهای کارآمدی در نقشه‌برداری از محوطه‌های باستانی فراهم آورده است (Lasaponara & Masini, 2013). این قابلیت وجود دارد که در دشت قم، این فناوری‌ها برای شناسایی استقرارگاه‌های مدفون و تحلیل تغییرات محیطی به‌کار گرفته شوند. داده‌های ماهواره‌ای با وضوح بالا، مانند Landsat 8 و Sentinel-2، امکان بررسی توزیع استقرارهای انسانی در ارتباط با تغییرات اقلیمی را فراهم کرده‌اند (Alexakis et al., 2012).

۲.۵.۵. مطالعات ژئوفیزیکی و کاوش‌های غیرمخرب

تحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی مانند مغناطیس‌سنجی، رادار نفوذی زمین (GPR) و مقاومت الکتریکی، روش‌های غیرتهاجمی هستند که برای شناسایی ساختارهای مدفون و لایه‌های استقراری مورد استفاده قرار گرفته‌اند (Horsley, 2015). در دشت قم، این روش‌ها می‌توانند به کشف بقایای معماری و شبکه‌های آب‌رسانی باستانی کمک کنند ـــ این شبکه‌ها نشان‌دهنده دانش پیشرفته جوامع باستانی در مدیریت منابع بوده است (Martorana et al., 2023).

۳.۵.۵. تحلیل‌های باستان‌زیست‌شناسی

مطالعات باستان‌جانورشناسی در این منطقه شواهد مهمی از رژیم‌های غذایی، کشاورزی و دامداری جوامع گذشته ارائه داده‌اند (خوشنویس، ۱۳۸۰). با ترکیب تجزیه‌وتحلیل‌های دیرین‌زیست‌‌بوم‌شناسی و باستان‌جانورشناسی، محققان می‌توانند تعاملات انسان با گیاهان و حیوانات را که به زیست‌بوم‌ها شکل‌داده و بر اعمال گذشته انسان تأثیر می‌گذارد، مطالعه کنند (Overton & Taylor, 2018). به‌طور کلی، ترکیب این روش‌های مدرن، درک ما را از تاریخچه زیست‌محیطی و فرهنگی دشت قم افزایش می‌د‌هد و به حفاظت بهتر از میراث باستانی منطقه کمک می‌کند. به‌ویژه، بهره‌گیری از فناوری‌های نوین مانند هوش مصنوعی در تحلیل داده‌های باستان‌شناسی، آینده پژوهش‌های این حوزه را متحول خواهد کرد (Argyrou & Agapiou, 2022).

جمع‌بندی

تحقیقات باستان‌شناسی در دشت قم، با توجه به موقعیت جغرافیایی خاص این منطقه در ایران مرکزی، نشان داده‌اند که این ناحیه در طول تاریخ، نقش برجسته‌ای در سکونت و تحولات اجتماعی جوامع انسانی ایفا کرده است. این منطقه با داشتن منابع طبیعی متنوع و ویژگی‌های اقلیمی خاص، بستری مناسب برای بررسی تعاملات پیچیده انسان و محیط زیست در دوران باستان فراهم کرده است. الگوهای استقرار و تغییرات زیست‌محیطی در این منطقه، به‌ویژه در مواجهه با چالش‌های اقلیمی و تغییرات زمین‌شناسی، نشان‌دهنده توانایی جوامع گذشته در سازگاری با محیط و توسعه استراتژی‌های نوآورانه برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی است (Reitz & Shackley, 2012).

مطالعات دیرین‌زیست‌شناسی و باستان‌زمین‌شناسی در شمال ایران مرکزی تأکید دارند که تغییرات آب‌وهوایی، به‌ویژه دوره‌های خشک‌سالی و تغییرات بارش، تأثیرات مستقیمی بر سکونتگاه‌های انسانی و الگوهای معیشتی این منطقه داشته‌اند (Schmidt et al., 2011; Shaikh Baikloo & Chaychi, 2020). شواهد رسوب‌شناسی و بررسی‌های باستان‌زمین‌شناسی نیز می‌توانند نشان ‌دهند که فرسایش‌های طبیعی، تغییرات در رسوبات و نوسانات سطح آب‌های زیرزمینی در دوره‌های مختلف تاریخی به‌شدت بر الگوهای استقراری و فعالیت‌های کشاورزی تأثیر گذاشته است (Banning, 2020; Hassan, 1978). از این نظر، ضرورت پژوهش‌های رسوب‌شناسی محیطی در محوطه‌های باستانی، به‌ويژه در دشت قم، برای دستیابی به یافته‌های غنی‌تر به‌منظور درک بهتر تعاملات انسان ـ محیط احساس‌ می‌شود (شیخ بیکلو اسلام، ۱۴۰۱). همچنین، پژوهش‌های دیرین‌اقلیم‌شناسی نشان داده‌اند که تغییرات اقلیمی در این منطقه، به‌ویژه خشک‌سالی‌های مکرر، منجر به جابه‌جایی‌های جمعیتی و تغییرات در مسیرهای تجاری و سکونتگاه‌ها شده است (Shaikh Baikloo et al., 2023).

در کنار این مطالعات، فناوری‌های نوین مانند سنجش از دور، مدل‌سازی GIS و تجزیه‌وتحلیل‌های ژئوفیزیکی نیز امکان بازسازی دقیق‌تری از محیط باستانی دشت قم را فراهم کرده‌اند. استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای و مدل‌سازی سه‌بعدی محیط‌های باستانی، به‌ویژه در شناسایی محوطه‌های مدفون، تغییرات سطح آب‌های زیرزمینی و نحوه استفاده از منابع آبی، به‌طور مؤثری اطلاعات جدیدی درباره سکونتگاه‌ها و چگونگی سازگاری جوامع با تغییرات محیطی ارائه داده است (Casana, 2021). علاوه‌براین، استفاده از روش‌های پیشرفته‌ای مانند تجزیه‌وتحلیل DNA باستانی و ایزوتوپ‌های پایدار، به پژوهشگران این امکان را داده است که رژیم‌های غذایی و جابه‌جایی‌های انسانی را در دوران باستان مطالعه کنند. این روش‌ها به‌ویژه در شناسایی تغییرات اقلیمی و بررسی ارتباط آن‌ها با الگوهای مهاجرت و استقرار جوامع انسانی مفید بوده‌اند (de Vareilles et al., 2021).

از سوی دیگر، سیستم‌های مدیریت منابع آبی در دشت قم نقش حیاتی در مقابله با تغییرات اقلیمی ایفا کرده‌اند. توسعه فناوری‌های آبیاری مانند قنات‌ها و سدسازی‌ها، به‌ویژه در دوران باستان، نشان‌دهنده استراتژی‌های نوآورانه جوامع گذشته برای استفاده بهینه از منابع آبی در مواجهه با خشک‌سالی‌های طولانی‌مدت است. مطالعات تاریخی نشان می‌دهند که این سیستم‌های آبیاری نه‌تنها به تأمین آب برای کشاورزی کمک کرده‌اند، بلکه باعث ایجاد سکونتگاه‌های پایدار و توسعه اقتصادی در مناطق خشک و نیمه‌خشک مانند دشت قم شده‌اند (Kaptijn, 2018).

نتایج این پژوهش‌ها نشان می‌دهند که درک تاریخ زیست‌محیطی و فرهنگی دشت قم، نه‌تنها به شناخت گذشته کمک می‌کند، بلکه می‌تواند در تدوین سیاست‌های حفاظتی و مدیریتی برای حفظ میراث فرهنگی و محیط‌زیست امروزی نیز مؤثر باشد. در شرایطی که جهان امروز با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی چون تغییرات اقلیمی و بحران‌های آب مواجه است، این مطالعات می‌توانند به ما در شناسایی راهکارهای مؤثری برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی و سازگاری با تغییرات محیطی کمک کنند. به‌ویژه، بررسی استراتژی‌های مدیریت منابع در گذشته می‌تواند درس‌هایی برای توسعه شیوه‌های پایدار و مقاوم به بحران‌های امروز ارائه دهد.

در نهایت، ادامه پژوهش‌های بین‌رشته‌ای و بهره‌برداری از فناوری‌های نوین مانند مدل‌سازی GIS، تجزیه‌وتحلیل DNA باستانی و سنجش از دور می‌تواند به کشف جنبه‌های ناشناخته‌تری از تاریخ دشت قم کمک کند. همچنین، استفاده از این فناوری‌ها می‌تواند درک عمیق‌تری از تعاملات پیچیده انسان و محیط در گذشته به‌ویژه در مواجهه با بحران‌های زیست‌محیطی فراهم کند و در نهایت به طراحی راهکارهایی جدید برای مقابله با مشکلات زیست‌محیطی معاصر کمک نماید (Argyrou & Agapiou, 2022).

 

نتیجه‌گیری

تعامل انسان و محیط فرایندی پیچیده و چندوجهی است که همواره در طول تاریخ ادامه داشته است. مطالعه این تعاملات در باستان‌شناسی محیطی، نه‌تنها به درک گذشته کمک می‌کند، بلکه می‌تواند راهکارهایی برای مدیریت منابع طبیعی و مقابله با چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی معاصر ارائه دهد. بررسی نمونه‌های تاریخی نشان می‌دهد که جوامع موفق، آن‌هایی بودند که توانستند به‌طور مؤثر با تغییرات محیطی سازگار شوند و استراتژی‌های پایداری را توسعه دهند. باستان‌شناسی محیطی دشت قم نشان‌دهنده تعاملات پیچیده بین انسان و محیط زیست در طول تاریخ است. جوامع باستانی با توسعه سیستم‌های مدیریت آب مانند قنات‌ها و اتخاذ استراتژی‌های سازگاری با تغییرات اقلیمی، توانستند در شرایط سخت زیست‌محیطی به حیات خود ادامه دهند. این رویکردها نه تنها به بقای جوامع کمک کردند، بلکه به توسعه تمدن‌های باستانی در این منطقه نیز منجر شدند. نتایج این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که تحلیل‌های میان‌رشته‌ای در باستان‌شناسی محیطی، امکان بازسازی دقیق محیط‌های گذشته و درک تأثیر فعالیت‌های انسانی بر تغییرات اکوسیستمی را فراهم می‌کند. همچنین، یافته‌ها تأکید دارند که استفاده از روش‌های پیشرفته مانند سنجش از دور و تحلیل داده‌های زمین‌شناسی، نقشی کلیدی در مدیریت پایدار منابع طبیعی و حفاظت از میراث فرهنگی دارد. به‌طور کلی، باستان‌شناسی محیطی به‌عنوان یک رویکرد چندرشته‌ای، بینش‌های ارزشمندی را در مورد گذشته و حال ارائه می‌دهد و به درک بهتر چالش‌های زیست‌محیطی کنونی نیز کمک می‌کند.
