Abstract :
Water coning is one of the most common problems during production from fractured reservoirs. Various strategies presented to reduce the production of water caused by the coning phenomenon include drilling horizontal wells, dual completion of wells, simultaneous production of water and oil, reduction of production flow rate and use of gel polymers. In this study, by using the actual data of a production well in one of the Iranian fractured gas fields, which has the problem of water production, the field model is simulated with ECLIPSE 300 software. The simulation results showed that the main reason for the production of water in this well, is the water coning. Therefore, the phenomenon of water coning and effective factors has first been investigated in conventional and fractured petroleum reservoirs. Then, in order to better investigation of the factors affecting the coning phenomenon, sensitivity analysis was performed on various parameters of the fracture and matrix, including permeability and porosity. The results of this study showed that factors such as vertical and horizontal permeability of the fracture, horizontal permeability of the matrix, porosity of the fracture and the matrix have a significant effect on the time between water breakthrough and its production, which leads to better understanding of the coning phenomenon.
