Preparation of Nickel Nano Particles From Reduction Reaction of Catalyst Use in Hydrogenation of Vegetable Oil

Abstract :
In this work Nickel nano particles with control on particles size were prepared via a chemical reduction. The primary substance of this synthesis is nickel chloride obtained from the recycling of catalyst used in vegetable oil. Nickel chloride as a starting material was recovered from spent catalyst in hydrogenation process for vegetable oil refining. The molecular and crystal structure of the prepared nano particles was investigated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The morphology and size of the particles were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope images (SEM). In this work spherical nickel nano particles with less than 20 nm size were synthesized. The temperature effect on particle size showed that 25˚C is the optimum temperature for the synthesis of pure nickel nano particles.
