Abstract :
The objectives of this research are the elimination of trace trichlorophenol (TCP) in aqueous media in a laboratory scale. Samples of TCP were made and studied at different chemical conditions. It was concluded that in both cases of sonolysis and ozone or their combination the effect of pH on the degradation at higher values (in alkaline medium) is very distinct compared with those of acidic or neutral chemical conditions. The whole experimental data have been presented resulted from different pH values. The results revealed the fact that, the sonolysis alone is not capable of deteriorating the trace pollutant. A highe removal efficiency was observed at alkaline condition in the case of O3/US with %99 of degradation. The degradation efficiency of sonalysis has been proved to be low and a maximum of %10 in alkaline medium. The kinetics data showed that the degradation reaction is of pseudo- first order in respect to TCP. The first and second order rate constants have been calculated through spectrophotometry.
