Abstract :
The present study aims to investigate the degradation of trace Red 198 dye micropollutant under ozone, sonolysis and their combination in the presence of ZnO and TiO2 as catalysts at a laboratory scale. The effect of key parameters such as EC, COD, BOD5, TOC and pH for Red 198 colour aqueous samples were studied. The percentage of colour removal and concentration of samples, during the experiments, was registered spectrophotometrically. In the case of ozonation, the results revealed a high amount of degradation without sedimentation or turbidity of sample solutions. The values of parameters obtained were within the ranges of those environmental allowed standards. Moreover, sonolysis method did not degrade the aqueous samples of trace micropollutant (Red 198). Furthermore, the removal yield in ozonation was 99% and about the same for all chemical conditions of alkalic, acidic and neutral.
