Abstract :
This study investigates the effect of two electrolytes on the decolorization efficiency of a solution containing AcidRed 88 (AR88) by D.C. electrocoagulation. The efficiency of two electrolytes (KI and KCl) in a single forms werecompared. The interelectrode distance was 15 mm, pH of the solution was 6.7 and current density wasapproximately 57 A m-2. A simple electrochemical cell was prepared with an iron anode and aluminum cathode. Fora solution of 40 mg L-1 AR88 using 200 mg L-1 of KI and KCl separately the color removal percent of 15% and45% were achieved respectively after 4 min of electrolysis and almost complete decolorization occurred after 20min of electrolysis.
