Abstract :
Sport has been historically exercised with purposes of contest or entertainment in different countries, but in new and professional form it coincides with industrial developments. Sociologically, sport is related to the aspects such as contest, entertainment, skills, and joy in the first place, but in fact it deals with wide variety of social issues. Identity, as one of the most important dimensions of athletic character is highly affected by sportive behaviors. Most literature shows that sportsmen have different identities in comparison to none-sportsmen, but here in this research the main idea has established around the identical changes happen during the developments of individuals’ sportive life. In this study three groups of 362 Iranian wrestlers participated. According to the results there were significant differences between three groups due to their competence feeling, self-esteem, and group dependency averages. Additionally, the dominant identity in higher levels was social and in low levels was individual. Finally, in higher levels more homogeneity was observed between individual and social identities.
