Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) Based On Local Schools of Urban Planning Using Two Analytical Methods, TOPSIS and Multiple Regression (Case Study: Tabriz School of Urban Planning)

Abstract :

The model of construction and development of urban areas as a platform for strengthening solidarity and social bonds and consequently social sustainability should be formed in accordance with the biological needs of its residents. These biological needs that shape the quality of life of citizens are defined in different parts such as residence, work and activity, recreation, social interactions and etc. One of the schools that was formed before the Isfahan school of urban planning in the territory of Iran and had an undeniable impact on the Isfahan school in terms of meaning and physicality is the Tabriz school. It has left a civilization in Azerbaijan. Tabriz school of urban planning, as one of the original schools of urban planning in Iran, in addition to the cities under the sphere of influence of the civilizational geography of Azerbaijan (which form a significant number of urban settlements in the north-west of the country), will be able to use the principles and methods in the construction and development of the neighborhoods will have an effect on the structure of other cities in the country. The city of Tabriz was the capital from the middle of the 7th century of the Hijri (Ilkhani historic period) until the middle of Shah Tahmasab Safavi's rule in the middle of the 10th century of the Hijri Qamari, and after that until the end of the Safavid dynasty's rule, it was the second most important city of Iran, and in the Qajar historic period, it also kept the title " "Dar al-Saltaneh" was able to take a pivotal role and in a way lead the Iranian society in various cultural and artistic, economic, social, political and civil and development fields and set an important page in the history of Iran and due to the production of ideas, theories, Plans and in general a value system for how to build and how to live at the level of cities, actually emerge as a school. In terms of urban planning and architecture, the Tabriz school left behind works that can be recognized in terms of the components of the construction of neighborhoods and, in other words, have their own local identity. The characteristics of the Tabriz school of urbanism have been exhibited in the physical development of this city in different periods and have spread in the texture, identity and functions of the city and its surroundings. The proportions and scale of physical development in this school are human in every sense. From another angle, urban development and urban planning based on this school is an evolved set of various components and mixed uses that can be well exploited in the development of traditional neighborhoods (TND) as a local model. The main goal of the research is to recognize the pattern of traditional neighborhood development (TND) based on the local schools of urban planning in Iran and specifically the principles of Tabriz school in urban planning. According to the objectives and components of the study, this research aims to expand Tabriz school of urbanism in the traditional neighborhood development and to present and apply a local model in the construction and development of urban neighborhood too. For this reason, this research uses the developmental-applicative combined method based on the type of goal. The research method based on the type of analysis is considered in the category of quantitative research. The results based on the TOPSIS method show that the infrastructure and facilities of the neighborhoods, the physical structure and the economic structure respectively have the first to third priorities in the of traditional neighborhood development according Tabriz school and based on the regression results, the multiple correlation coefficient is 0.815 and the corrected coefficient of determination is equal to 0.815 and this value shows that 81.4 percent of the changes in the traditional neighborhood development can be predicted through the principles taken from the Tabriz school of urban planning. the multiple correlation coefficient is 0.815 and the corrected coefficient of determination is equal to 0.815 and this value shows that 81.4 percent of the changes in the traditional neighborhood development can be predicted through the principles taken from the Tabriz school of urban planning.
