Abstract :
Nitroaphenol compounds and toxic dyes are considered to be the main pollutants of wastewater of various industries. These synthetic organic compounds are very toxic and one of the most persistent pollutants in the environment. Developing a simple and effective method to remove non-degradable pollutants into non-hazardous products is one of the main challenges in environmental studies. In this research, adsorption capacity removal of 4-nitrophenol (4NP) from aqueous solutions using carbon nanofibers (CNF) was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH and initial concentration. Optimum conditions for (4NP) adsorption were found to be initial pH≈2 , carbon nanofiber (CNF) dose≈ 0.02 g and equilibrium time≈ 80 min. Results show that removal efficiency of the 4NP increased by increasing 4NP concentration and decreased by increasing the CNFs dosage and pH. Based on correlation coefficients, Langmuir gave the best fit for 4NP adsorption onto CNF. Also, the kinetic studies indicate the adsorption of 4NP onto CNF is followed a pseudo- second order kinetic.
