Abstract :
Qalandariyya is one of the branches of the Safaviyya dynasty which was ramified from the faction of Malamatiyya and is sometimes considered as Malamatiyya itself. At first, the actions of Qalandariyya were similar to those of Malamatiyya, i.e. protesting against the political and social conditions. However, after some time, the members of this faction began to sham. They turned to unusual and strange appearances for distinguishing themselves from other members of the society. One of the prominent figures of Qalandariyya was Jamaleddin Savoji who was the leader of Julaghi Qalandaris. The myths surrounding Jamaleddin Savoji such as the stories told to Sufis and mystics are full of unbelievable exaggerations. Being an Iranian, Jamaleddin presented his novelty practices in Damascus. Later, he went to Egypt and settled in Damietta. A large number of people from Islamic countries became Jamaleddin's followers. After his death, Qalandaris who pretended to be chaste and free from worldly attachments fell into corruption and committed actions which were against both the custom and the religion.
