Abstract :
Endometriosis is a hormone-related gynecological disorder characterized by severe pelvic pain and decreased fertility. However, most of its molecular mechanisms has been remained largely unknown. In the present study, a meta-analysis of 11 genome-associated datasets of patient-control pairs was performed. The meta-analysis analyses showed that loci including rs11674184 which located proximate to the GREB1 gene - a regulator of estrogen - and rs12700667 located upstream of miR148a gene, were significantly (P<0.05) associated with the risk of endometriosis. These findings may candidate specific genes which are crucial in estrogen signaling pathways. It may present unique opportunities for more targeted research efforts.
