An experimental test in measuring the relationship between religiosity and political participation

Abstract :
The key essence in modern communities recognizes the idea of the civil right of self-determination for citizens and somehow focuses on the discussion of the limitation of the power of the rulers, whose manifestation depends on the participation of the citizens, especially the student population as the future officials of the society. The present study was conducted with the aim of recognizing the relationship between the dimensions of religiosity and political participation among the students of Chamran and Islamic Azad- universities of Ahvaz. For this purpose, survey method and questionnaire tool were used and 390 students at two Ahvaz universities were selected and studied as a research sample. The theoretical framework of the research is based on the thoughts of Hunter and Lensky. The distribution and the resulting data were analyzed based on SPSS 23 software. The findings of the research show that there is a significant relationship between the dimensions of religiosity and political participation of students in both universities, especially among female students. The highest correlation coefficient and the relationship between religious rituals and political participation had the lowest correlation coefficient (r=0.21).
