Abstract :
Semantic reviewing of a text and analysis of its lexis is one of methods to attain the author's exact meaning and intention. The present article aims at semantic investigating of the four Quranic concepts: conflict, dispute, hostility and contention as subdivisions of human discrepancies. The descriptive_ analytic method based on Quranic verses, as an innovative approach, was applied. The results show that all the above-mentioned concepts are the verbal discorce manifests. Conflict, as a verbal and discoursal conduct, mostly occurs among average individuals including believers, unbelievers and hypocrites. Contention, however, as a verbal conduct is of two versions: admirable good contention and contemptible futile contention. The resemblance of hostility and dispute as verbal conducts is to be only used by unbelievers and hypocrites, thus, conflict is broader than other Quranic concepts of the contention, dispute and hostility. Dispute is also connected with distress, indigence, and internal grievance Among features of enmity, truth avoidance, futile contention, ridicule, refutation, doubt, ignorance, resort to futile arguments, and false reasoning are prominent. And etymologically, the concept of futile contention is rooted in prejudice of its precursors, following disobedient Iblis, arrogance, and sin commitment, whereas the hostility is rooted in debauchery.
