Abstract :
Sheikh Saduq has narrated a Hadith from Imam Reza (AS) quoting Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Jahm. In this Hadith, he referred to the deceptive metamorphosis of Harut and Marut. The Imam said that they were two angels and then said: People are wrong that the metamorphosed creature is the star of Venus, but he is a metamorphosed animal that is in the seas. The document of this Hadith has a severe weakness due to the existence of two unknown narrators and two weak narrators. In addition, an examination of other narrations narrated by Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Jahm shows that his narrations were extremely vulnerable in terms of the entry of Israeli material. In a debate with Imam Reza (as), he even referred to some Israelis in relation to the prophets, which was met with a reaction from Imam (as). Accepting the deceptive metamorphosis of Harut and Marut is closely related to accepting the deception of angels who, according to the verses of the Qur'an and authentic narrations, are immune from error and disobedience. On the other hand, the metamorphosis of that deceptive person in the form of an animal that is absolutely unknown to the people is another reason for the textual weakness of the narration. The present study aims to refute the material attributed to Imam Reza (as) by examining the document and text of this narration.
