Abstract :
This research was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based therapy and short-term cognitive-behavioral therapy on emotional processing, anxiety related to pain in adolescents with digestive disorders. It was a semi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design with experimental and control groups and a two-month follow-up period. All adolescents with digestive disorders referred to Milad Hospital in Tehran in 2023 formed the statistical population of the study, which were selected by available sampling of 45 people and randomly assigned to three equal groups of 15 people. Each of the two intervention approaches were implemented during 8 sessions (one 90-minute session each week) for the experimental groups, but the control group did not receive any intervention. In addition to the demographic information checklist, data collection was done using the emotional processing questionnaire (Baker et al., 2007) and the pain-related anxiety questionnaire (McCracken et al., 1992). Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance with repeated measurements with SPSS-v24 statistical software. The results showed that both treatment approaches were effective in improving the total scores of emotional processing and pain anxiety in the subjects of the experimental groups (P<0.05). The results of the Benferroni post hoc test also showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the two treatment approaches in terms of effectiveness on the dependent variables studied, and both treatment methods had the same effect on reducing pain anxiety and improving emotional processing in adolescents with digestive problems. (P<0.05). These results further clarify the role of mental and behavioral structures in patients with digestive problems and reveal the necessity of using short-term treatment approaches derived from the third wave of psychotherapy in order to adjust the symptoms of patients with digestive problems.
