Analyzing the reasons for the success and failure of ghazal writers in the guise of songwriting (Case study of the works of Mohammad Ali Bahmani)

Abstract :

Song is a word with ancient and Avestan roots meaning fresh, new, and young. Poetry and song have an inseparable relationship, and this connection is clearly reflected in Persian art, as full-time poets have generally experimented with composing works in the form of this artistic genre. Among the ancient Persian poets who were also proficient in music, we can mention "Rudaki", "Farrokhi Sistani", and "Hafez". Today, however, only a few of these poets have succeeded in creating songs. The art of songwriting has principles and requirements that are unique to this format, and without benefiting from them, the path of songwriting will deviate and become further and further away from the ultimate goal. Mohammad Ali Bahmani is one of the few ghazal writers who has also had a style in the field of songs. In this study, while reviewing and examining Bahmani's songwriting career, we will review and analyze the theoretical framework of the distinguishing characteristics of songwriting and poetry, and then explain the reasons for this poet's success in the songwriting profession among contemporary poets. Ultimately, it was concluded that the lack of use of the preposition, the selection of inappropriate themes and words, the type of meter that is not used, the lack of attachment to the rhythm of the distance, the neglect of the capacity of rhythms, and other shortcomings in the path of poets' songwriting have created many poets who are deprived of it.
