Abstract :
Awareness of bird parasites present in bird shops is very important for infection control. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the parasitic infection of the digestive tract of ornamental birds offered in ornamental bird sales centers in Isfahan. In order to investigate the infection of digestive tract parasites in ornamental birds, samples were taken from bird shops in Isfahan from early May 1403 to July 1403. The birds tested included canaries, mynahs, and finches, which were available in different numbers in bird shops. In this study, 120 birds were sampled, including 60 canaries, 40 finches, and 20 mynahs. In order to identify gastrointestinal parasites, bird feces samples were tested using conventional parasitological methods (floatation, sedimentation, and direct diffusion) and the type of parasite eggs and species were identified using valid diagnostic keys. The results showed that out of 120 collected feces samples, 15 (12.5%) (9 canaries (7.5%), 6 finches (5%)) were infected with nematode eggs. Isocypora infection was observed in 120 birds, 43 (22 canaries (18.33%), 16 finches (13.33%) and 5 (17.4%) (35.83%). These results showed that Isfahan ornamental birds are infected with various digestive parasites. For control and prevention, the best practice is to disinfect the cages Keeping birds, keeping the place free from contamination and providing a suitable place to keep ornamental birds and separating them from other animals. Adjusting the appropriate humidity of the environment, adjusting the addition of preventive drugs with appropriate doses in the food rations can be effective in controlling diseases.
