Syntactic Structure of Adjectives in the Layzangan Dialect of Darab

Abstract :
The term "adjective" literally means "attribute" and, in grammatical terminology, it refers to a word that is used alongside a noun to express one of its characteristics. Various grammarians have offered definitions of adjective, and with slight flexibility, it may be stated that all such definitions are based on expressing the quality or manner of a noun. The present study is devoted to the syntactic structure of adjectives in the Layzangan Dialect of Darab. The data collection methodology employed in this research is both field-based and library-based, and the research method follows a descriptive-analytical content analysis approach. In contemporary linguistic studies—particularly in light of modern linguistic theories—grammarians have paid increasing attention to the position and syntactic placement of words within a sentence. Accordingly, adjectives are generally analyzed in terms of their placement, particularly within noun phrases. However, this approach appears insufficient, as many essential features of grammatical categories—especially aspects relating to the productivity and flexibility of the Persian language—are often overlooked. Given the necessity and importance of this issue, the author of this article has endeavored to examine adjectives in Layzangan Dialect with respect to their semantic function, morphological structure, gradability, comparison (including diminution, intensification, and moderation), syntactic position (pre-nominal or post-nominal), the placement of descriptive adjectives and their nouns, the syntactic relationship within adjectival phrases, and agreement between adjective and noun
