2025 and the Snapback Mechanism

Abstract :
The Western world has put on the agenda a combination of three strategies: maximum pressure, activation of the snapback mechanism, and military strikes, to force Iran to change its behavior and surrender in various fields, including its nuclear and missile programs and regional activities. Also, the year 2025 is a very important year, considering that in October, the expiration date of Resolution 2231 will come, and it is expected that, under the current conditions, European countries will take action to activate the snapback mechanism and restore international sanctions against Iran. As a result of activating the snapback mechanism, seven Security Council resolutions under Chapter VII of the UN Charter will be automatically activated against Iran, and this issue could create new challenges for Iran in the international arena and requires appropriate diplomatic measures. The sunset clause of October 2025 (Mehr 1404) is the most important, the sunset clause. Because in addition to the fact that this clause is related to the end of restrictions on Iran's nuclear cooperation and technology; if the snapback mechanism and clauses 11 and 12 of Resolution 2231 are not activated by this date, the nuclear restrictions against Iran will be lifted and by October 2025, Iran will be removed from all clauses of Chapter VII of the UN Charter. After the end of 10 years, any nuclear sanctions must go to the Security Council, be approved, and all five permanent members of the Security Council, including China and Russia, must agree to it
