Investigating the effect of learning strategies on mathematics achievement with the mediating role of attitude towards school

Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of learning strategies on academic achievement in mathematics with the mediating role of attitude towards school in students. The research was applied in terms of its purpose and descriptive-correlational research method was path analysis. The statistical population was 655 students in the fifth grade of elementary school in Azna. From the statistical population, 242 people were selected as a statistical sample using the Morgan- Krejci table using cluster random sampling. The data collection tools were the Karami Standard Learning Strategies Questionnaire (2005), the McCutch and Siegel Standard School Attitude Questionnaire (2003), and the students' math grade in the second round. Also, the reliability of the variables of learning strategies, attitude towards school, and academic achievement in math was 0.990, 0.985, and 0.990, respectively, so they had a good reliability. To analyze the data, skewness and kurtosis tests, factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and Sobel test were used using Spss 22 and Smart Pls statistical software. The results showed that learning strategies have an effect on the academic achievement of mathematics with the mediation role of attitude towards school in students (VAF=0.494, Z value = 2.92). Learning strategies have an effect on the attitude towards school in students (β=0.815, Z value = 674.22). Learning strategies have an effect on the academic achievement of mathematics in students (β=0.382, Z value = 4.813). Attitude towards school has an effect on the academic achievement of mathematics in fifth grade students (β=0.457, Z value = 6.108).
