The Role of Iranian Intellectuals and Society in Building a Revolutionary Ideology

Abstract :
The revolution is a historical act and it is formed when two ideologies between the government and the opposition face each other. Iran's Islamic Revolution was characterized by an ideological and symbolic conflict between intellectuals and the Pahlavi modernist government. Therefore, the study of the social and historical role of intellectuals and their relationship with the Iranian society is the main topic of the research. So, the views of "Antonio Gramsci" and "Edward Said" about the social role of intellectuals have been used. The purpose of the current research is to study the sociological role of Iranian intellectuals in the construction of revolutionary ideology. We are also looking for an answer to the question, under what conditions did the intellectuals influence the minds of the Iranian society and by creating a revolutionary ideology, they caused the collapse of the Pahlavi regime? In answering this question, examining the role of intellectuals and their relationship with Iranian society and the creation of Islamic ideology has an important place. The findings of show that the Pahlavi regime faced the modernization of Iran due to social mobility and the emergence of new political demands and the increase of people's dissatisfaction. A number of Iranian intellectuals, together with the Iranian society, opposed the modernization of the Pahlavi regime and by symbolizing and creating Islamic Ideology, they caused the collapse of the Pahlavi regime and the Islamic revolution. The current research was conducted in a qualitative way and through the study of historical documents and texts.
