A Research on the Idea of Reinhardt Koselleck about the Crisis and Pathogenesis of Modern Political Thought in the Context of the German anti-enlightenment Tradition

Abstract :

The crisis has always played a fundamental role in political theorizing, as well as historiography of political thought in Europe. During the first half of the 20th century, the tradition of German anti-enlightenment with thinkers such as Martin Heidegger and Carl Schmitt turned the idea of "crisis" into a subject of research in the modern thought and pointed out its harm and results. Following this type of research, Reinhart Koselleck is one of the researchers, focusing on the concept of crisis in modern political thought, he has explained the course of evolution and its harm. In this research, we examine the background of Reinhart Koselleck's idea about the political-historical thought of the Enlightenment. The question of this research can be posed as follows: Reinhart Koselleck's idea of pathogenesis in the political-historical thought of the Enlightenment was formed in what context, under the influence of which thinkers, and what is the author's claim and intention in its design? According to our findings, Koselleck's thought was formed under the influence of Heidelberg's anti-enlightenment circle, especially Carl Schmitt and Karl Löwith about the crisis in modern thought. Koselleck's idea is that the modern thought started with Hobbes and from the crisis of religious wars, and in the continuation of its development, due to the disruption of the relationship between ethics and politics, it suffered a kind of contradiction and continuous crisis. Therefore, he presents a type of teleology of the consequences of modern political thought, especially the Enlightenment, and its relationship with the totalitarianism of the 20th century to show that the modern political thought is suffering from harm.
