Abstract :

Modernism in urban environments is a cultural and social phenomenon that has emerged simultaneously with the growth of urbanization and cultural changes. This trend indicates a high tendency for individuals to follow contemporary models, new trends, and global styles, which typically focus on attire, appearance, behavior, and lifestyle. Fashion is a social conversation, and the choice of clothing is not just an individual preference; it is a response to the pressure of reference groups, the process of socialization, and collective surveillance. Iranian society has faced the trend of fashion in recent decades, and this issue has become a normal behavior. Accordingly, the present study aimed to study the factors affecting the prevalence of fashion among urban citizens between 1387 and 1403 (Iranian calendar). The research methodology for analysis and examination involves a systematic review of survey studies, with an emphasis on meta-analysis of quantitative research. From 1387 to 1403, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, approximately 41 research samples were selected for evaluation from 100 extracted communities. The research findings indicated that cultural factors (membership in social networks; foreign media; use of satellite and internet; domestic media consumption; generational gap; cultural capital; modern leisure style; and religious beliefs); social factors (differential association; socialization; social surveillance; social trust; social cohesion; social reference model); psychological factors (identity formation; need for distinction; social isolation; sense of alienation; and self-esteem); and economic factors (economic capital; socio-economic class; family consumerism; and income level) have influenced modernism among urban dwellers. Accordingly, modernism is more than just a consumptive behavior; it is a window into the unconscious needs, identity tensions, and social vulnerabilities of citizens. Managing it requires simultaneous attention to cultural policies (such as strengthening non-consumptive identities and healthy leisure styles) and psycho-social support (enhancing intrinsic self-esteem and strengthening social capital), and reforming economic patterns (solving long-term economic problems and fostering an active business environment). Based on the research findings, the following suggestions can be made: formulating cultural and identity-building policies and programs, including designing and implementing educational cultural programs in schools, universities, and cultural centers to promote indigenous and national values and traditions. Second, promoting a modern lifestyle while preserving cultural identity through holding cultural and educational workshops and courses on the integration of fashion and indigenous culture. Third, controlling and monitoring the trend of fashionism in public space: In this context, urban and cultural institutions can act in a way that, while being attractive, supports cultural and ethical values by participating in the design and modification of clothing, icons, and consumer products. Fourth, encourage the active participation of young people in cultural trends by creating and supporting youth groups and local artists to produce and promote indigenous and modern fashion and clothing styles while respecting cultural and ethical values. Finally, educating and raising awareness among the community through launching educational and awareness programs in schools and the media about the consequences of excessive consumerism and the importance of preserving cultural values in the face of fashion trends, as well as introducing positive and influential role models in public media and social networks that promote appropriate lifestyles and clothing
