Calculation of ground displacement caused by earthquake using radar interferometry of Sentinel 1 satellite. (Case study: Turkmanchai city)

Abstract :
An earthquake is a natural and fatal disaster that causes the deaths and injuries of many people and tsunami waves. Although it is one of the most common natural phenomena, it is considered by many people to be the most frightening and dangerous hazard. Currently, with the advancement of remote sensing science, radar interferometry is an efficient and relatively accurate method for measuring the displacement of the earth's surface. A case study has been conducted on the earthquake of November 17, 2018, in Turkmanchai city, in the city of Mianeh. In this study, the radar interferometer (InSAR) method was used to estimate the amount of displacement caused by the earthquake, and the down images were analyzed and processed using SNAP software. Radar interferometers allow detecting vertical displacements of the earth's surface in millimeters. In this regard, the images before and after the earthquake were selected and used from Sentinel-1 data related to the region. The purpose of this research is to estimate the amount of rise and fall on the earth's surface caused by an earthquake, and the desired outputs are in the form of figures and graphs. The results of the research showed that the displacement of the earth's surface was -7.3 cm in the area of Turkmanchai city.
