Evaluating the effectiveness of teaching prerequisite math skills on physics scores of 11th grade female students

Abstract :
This quasi-experimental study investigated the impact of mastering mathematical skills on physics scores of female 11th-grade students in the experimental science track. The sample consisted of 30 students randomly assigned to experimental (receiving prerequisite mathematical skills training) and control (receiving traditional physics instruction) groups. Initially, essential mathematical skills required for solving 11th-grade physics problems were identified. Then, the topics of static electricity and electric current (chapters one and two of 11th-grade physics) were taught using two different methods. The control group received traditional physics instruction, while the experimental group received training on the necessary mathematical computational and algebraic skills prior to the physics lessons. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) in SPSS. The results indicated that teaching prerequisite mathematical skills had a significant positive effect on improving students' physics scores. .
