Comparison of the surfaces of copper and aluminum sheets in lithium ion batteries before and after using nano sponge

Abstract :

One of the serious problems that can arise in lithium-ion batteries is the lack of proper adhesion of the electrode active materials to the cathode and anode electrode surfaces, which causes the electrode active materials to flake off, flake off, or dissolve in the electrolyte, and ultimately the battery disables In lithium-ion batteries, copper sheets are usually used as a substrate for sticking anode active materials, and aluminum sheets are used as a substrate for sticking cathode active materials. Until now, several researches have been carried out to increase the adhesion of anode and cathode electrode active materials, which includes physical, mechanical and chemical optimizations.In this study, the structure of the nano sponge, which is actually composed of relatively regular melamine networks, is examined before and after use to optimize the surfaces of copper and aluminum electrodes using a digital light microscope. Also, the microscopic morphology of the surfaces of these electrodes before and after using nano sponge and plasma is compared. The obtained microscopic images show that by using this sponge and plasma, the surfaces of these electrodes increase significantly. The contact angle of water and NMP solvents on the surfaces of copper and aluminum sheets were measured and studied, respectively. Also, the adhesion of electrode active materials shows a significant improvement after this optimization.
