Abstract :

Investigating the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis parasite in horses in Kurdistan province Abstract Background and Aim: Cryptosporidiosis is one of the major diseases common between humans and animals caused by the protozoan Cryptosporidium and its transmission through the fecal-oral route. It mainly causes gastrointestinal problems of diarrhea and malabsorption in humans and animals. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis in horses of Kurdistan province. Materials and Methods: Using random cluster sampling from different stomatal punches of Kurdistan province, 170 horses were examined in three different age groups (Under 1 year, 1-4 years and over 4 years) through direct rectal vaginal stool samples, next, samples were transferred to laboratory. To fix the specimens, incubate 5 g with 10% formalin and centrifuge for 2 minutes. Dissolve the supernatant and the resulting precipitate floated in the shaker to provide expansion through flotation, then examined by light microscope to search for cryptosporidium by Ziehl-Neelsen method. Chi-Square test was used to analyze the data. Results: The prevalence of Cryptosporidiosis in the province was 7.64 (13 to 170). There was no significant relationship between age and sex with prevalence (P> 0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis in the horses of Kordestan province was the same prevalence of other studies. Therefore, to reduce this prevalence, health and anti-parasitic prevention programs can be used. Keywords: Cryptosporidiosis, Horse, Kurdistan Province, Prevalence
