Abstract :
Throughout history, metal artifacts have served as repositories for visual, written, and cryptic communications. Among these artifacts, metal bowls adorned with inscribed prayers and talismans have endured through the centuries, with particular significance attributed to the forty-key bowl, also known as the forty-key bowl. The purpose of this research is to "Analyze the Themes of Talismanic in the Varieties of Forty-Key Bowl in the Safavid Period" using a descriptive-analytical method and a qualitative approach, and library and documentary sources were used to collect information. This research seeks to address the following inquiries: What defines the forty-key bowl, and what variations in its form have been documented? Furthermore, how do talismanic inscriptions manifest within the context of the forty-key bowl? The research findings show that the "Forty Keys" bowl has been used in various forms as a tool for amulets and its shape is different from other divination bowls, magic bowls, and other magic bowls due to key pendants. Rooted in popular belief, it has been utilized for purposes such as disease prevention and treatment, promoting well-being, ensuring success, and notably, countering malevolent forces such as magic and the evil eye. Moreover, the study revealed that the talismanic inscriptions on the bowl encompass a blend of popular belief and Shi’a concepts.
